It's not the delay that bothers me. It's not the lack of communication that bothers me. It's the reasons for the delay and the lack of communication. Nothing they have said or shown us in recent months bolsters my confidence in Maxwell.

It's not a good feeling for me and I'm not saying this to be mean.

Mike..

Some of the discussion on features of RC5 seem to have been lost in the monster thread. One of the last images you were testing for us, you produced the interior hall scene with daylight and sunlight coming though the glass.

There were a few requests to take that same scene and move the camera outside so you can see through the glass at the interior. This is where the problems with beta exist. If you ran that test could you please post it. Even if it didn't work, it would be good to see the progress.

Thanks.

very true. Ýou can make a little child believe everything if you just tell the story the right way. But off course, adults know better ...

Anything shy of that and someone's going to complain.
That's just wrong, IMO, and it's emblematic of an attitude you have that NL's customers are at fault here.

Not addressing you here, Mike, but (echoing Clinton's famous slogan) here's the phrase that pays: It's about communication, stupid.

As we've said over and over (and over and over) again, all NL would have to do to score a win would be to issue a short weekly statement on the current status of M~R--something like:

"we're concentrating on resolving [x issue], which we need to get right before we move on to [y issue]. We hear your concerns about sunlight and dielectrics and [this has been solved] [we'll get to that in a few weeks] [just don't know yet] [probably not for 1.0]." Etc.

As far as scoring a win with RC5, I think it just has to install without hassles and produce as good quality as beta. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable request, given the six months of development time between beta a now.
Second that

Unfortunately, there is one fact that seems to be perpetually lost on some of the users of this forum:

Just because a group of people consistently post to this forum doesn't mean that they represent the entire user-base.

In fact, the number of customers active on this forum represents at best a sizeable minority of all Maxwell owners. The majority don't have the time of day to cruise around on internet forums incessantly. A perfect example of this situation: a few posts up. Take a look at the date that user RobC joined this forum: Feb 25, 2005. And for his 17th post, he felt compelled to voice (eloquently, or not) his disapproval of the tone of the disgruntled but vocal minority of Maxwell owners.

He was swiftly disciplined by one of the forum regulars. I doubt he'll be back soon.

This is the precise reason that, while it would be nice, it is not necessarily required that NL directly address the concerns aired on this forum. Honestly, if you were in their shoes, how would you react to such antagonism as has become the regular fare here? They have actually exercised tremendous restraint with regards to this forum and some of its' users. I would've shut it down months ago, were it my company.

Let's be clear: This is merely an explanation, not a defense. I am not denegrating anyone for their own views or opinions. Ask the questions you want to ask. State your opinion (reasonably, please). Try to have a little fun.

Just please don't pretend to represent all of us.

Is this not true regardless of which side of the issue or its many parts one stands?

Most disgusting is how NL, and no one else's fault, just lets this forum descend into brawls between users, users and mods, mods and users, using draconian measures like censorship and banishment. It's ugly when it should be fun. We work in the same field and need one another to solve problems and discover new things. Instead, we are at one another's throat. All of this avoidable with honest, frank communications.

Right, thank you for reminding us of the silent majority that doesn't care if their stuff gets delivered on time.

Then what did you mean by saying that RobC is in a "disgruntled but vocal minority" then acting like he's a 5-year-old who's been told to sit in the corner? ("Disciplined"? Really now.) If the minority is disgruntled, then the gruntled majority must be happy with the way things are going.

I just had a peek in mike's bedroom. (I uploaded a spy cam on his bedroom computer). He isn't sleeping  !
He is authoring NL's announcement. He has already typed 14569834 pages and he is going strong!
:P

Seriously now, mike seems to be our only buddy around here the last days. I may not agree with him all the time, but he has a strong point. A point that is accepted by many users.
Keep up the good work!

Sorry for that sentimental breakout...
