Having to right-click, blah, blah, blah to set variables and paths and shit
is just amateurish at best. There is just no need for it.
Can't argue with you there, but at least we only have to do it once and then forget about it. And honestly, we clearly have bigger fish to fry. When our biggest challenge is the streamlined installer... brother, the beer's on me.

I have your same envirnonment variables but no way to render.

Error is:
the instruction at"0x004af51d" referenced memory at "0x00700073". The memory could not be "written".

okay, i had it working. coping the license is not needed once you set the variables in the way mike explained (i had to do that when both variables were pointing to next limit\maxwell\mxcl, which is wrong). only thing this is what i got (sl 9.48), it doesn't look good, does it?

Yeah.. that's a big one... I'm not the expert, but isn't that RAM related? Like you're running out of it? I swear I see that when I top out Maya's RAM load... got anything else open?

No, not really... but the SL stuff is all different now.. totally different engine. It got to SL 9.4 way faster... let it run some more. Also, she's not optimized yet... that'll be a big speed bump in the near future here.

REMINDER, guys -

Sun/physical sky does NOT render properly in Preview (Ctrl+P). You can approximate what it's going to look like with Ctrl-K, though which is a real-time sky preview. To really see your sun working, you gotta render.. click the little icon up top.

I added the system variables... which, may I add, the freakin installer should have done..

now I no longer get "maxwell variables not defined" Now it goes into an endless loop of various errors effectively freezing and crashing Lightwave.

This is so impressive... what can I say, it exceeds my wildest dreams.

frankly this fastly assembled ( in order to pretend to keep a deadline) thing cannot be called in anyway a render engine for now....so i wont waste my time on it.. without a manual also...
lets hope at least with some patches to have something a bit more handable...
something u dont have to modify the enviroment variable to just make start ( not saying render)
in the meantime.. enjoy yourself brave men

i finally got mxcl to work (almost peed my pants when it finally popped up) but there are some things I don't yet understand:

how do we set f stop?

why do the settings in mxcl not match the settings from studio? (not really a problem because you can stop the render, switch settings and resume--quite nice actually)

why can you only change resolution in mxcl or have I completely missed something from studio?

this is just the start of what I'm thinking will be a long list of questions…

will post the render when it's baked enough (thanks for the test file mike)

Another little tip I just noticed:

I updated the image size in my Camera Params, from the default 320x240 to 800x600 and hit the render icon. It still came out as 320x240. I had to hit SAVE first for it to update when I click the Render icon. Expect that to change REAL soon, but for now, that may save you some headache.
