Lights don't even work. Hows 'bout you downloading what (insert the description of your choice here) they uploaded for us and trying to get it to work? Then get back to us.
Frances -

I'm using exactly the same version you are right now. Even uninstalled and reinstalled so I'd be on the same page as everyone else for the short term. My lights seem to working fine... how can I help?

So, you have sunlight/skylight/physical sky working? From the max plug-in? You have emitters working from the max plug-in? You got the render button to work from the studio? I'm happy for you.

I have uninstalled the beta... and installed this AC (alpha candidate)

Every time I try to do anything more complicated then move an object it just VANISHES. OH look... it's gone. This happens both on a windows2k/athlonX2 machine AND my WinXP/P4 machine... no excuse as far as I'm concerned.. this is nowhere NEAR an RC

Also, just trying to use the lightwave plugin gives me an entertaining black box which just sits there and does nothing. So... effectively

I CAN'T RENDER A DAMN THING.

After all this waiting I now have something more advanced which does way less.

I guess my only option now is to go back to beta 1.2.2a

Or... could we have a stable app plugin? So we can have access to this supposed "powerhouse" Underneith this joke of an GUI?

No amount of client pressure would make me release software like this... and if I did, it would be correctly labled. Beta 1.2.3

Sorry, this is crap.

Ian.

mverta: Clutching at straws I decided to reboot my system and try your scene again. The preview worked fine and with hopes raised I went for broke and hit the render button. This time no crash - the scene rendered!

Perhaps this could solve some other peoples difficulties.

I didn't say you had to be of help, adehus. You're under no obligation to be part of the solution. Feel free to complain, I won't edit ya.

Frances -

Have no idea what's going on there... but I'm a Maya guy. We don't even HAVE a plug-in yet. Can you get something out of standalone?

Becco -

Glad to hear it, but also - periodic instability; what a pain in the ass. Keep an eye on it, and thanks for the reboot suggestion.

Iandavis -

If you could filter out your specific bugs and post them to the RC Bugs forum I'd appreciate it.

What - specifically - do you think the practical thing to do is, right now, to make Maxwell a more stable application?

I can't get anything out of the 3dsmax plugin either. All I get is "windows is unable to locate mxcl.exe (and I've checked my environment variables and the MAXWELL_ROOT is correct...and I physically added the system variable to path:\maxwell\mxcl)

In the Studio program, I'm not having much luck either. A botched preview is about all I can produce....

With joy and happiness in my heart (now that something is working) I will wish everyone goodnight and sweet dreams!

Whiskey...

Make sure your MAXWELL_ROOT USER environment variable does NOT point in any way to \mxcl it can't be a part of that variable anywhere.

This is mine:
C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell

This my USER environment variable, called "Path":
C:\Program Files\Next Limit\RealFlow3\;C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\;C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\mxcl\

My System Variable, Path, doesn't point to ANY NL stuff whatsoever

adehus wrote:Stuff it back in the box it came from until it's done. And then give us a realistic deadline so we don't have to think about it until NL is able to make good on their promise (that would be a first).

Some might even think this is obvious.
Okay, I have the perfect compromise for you. You stuff it back in the box (i.e. forget about it) while we test it and play with it, and we'll let you know when it's ready.

i sorted that out by coping and pasting license.dat in the subfolder mxcl, this way mxcl stars. i feel i'm almost there.

Ahh, thanks Mike. I adjusted the environment variables to match yours and now the 3dsmax plugin doesn't give me the mxcl error....but it renders the same thing as Frances (and everyone else I suppose)

If I had such power, believe me, I would. Alas, I am but a lowly beta tester trying his damndest to get the best app I can. I'd like it sooner rather than later, but what I really want is for it to be right. I know how I can best be useful, and that is by testing and posting, and trying to help here. That's all I can do, so I will.
