I did the full uninstall/reinstall and my emitters are humming along just fine... so I'm not seeing the install problem at my end...

Mike I understand your frustration and admire you trying to work through things. You must understand that we did not set their deadline? Don't blame the users for "wanting it now"? that is BS. There is no way they tested this software before releasing it...yes we will all work though it and you have the right attitude...there is just a big letdown here...now let's get to work :)

this is what i got:

well, emitters do work, materials do work (there's even a coating thingy there), but what i can't do is an actual render. from max i only get those b/w images and from the studio i can't start mxcl in no way. i tried all variables with no luck, i guess i reinstall it once more.

It's not the point to blame the users, Gary.. I'm a user, too. What I'm saying is that Maxwell is orders of magnitude more complex now because it can do so much more and so much more powerfully than before. The trade off is that it takes more time to program those things, hunt down bugs, etc. A decision was made to quell the very understandable frustration around here to the best degree possible, and that was by putting it all out there.

I knew there was going to be a lot of harsh feelings whether they did or didn't release RC 1; but I for one am glad that they're willing to withstand an avalanche of fury rather than compromise on the product. Because in time here, all this annoying stuff will be hammered out, and the killer engine that it is will rock. I hope you'll help...

GLAD to see you're making progress. When you double click on the .mxs file outside of Studio.. does it launch mxcl?

Thanks for the file mverta. It opens fine in Studio. Your file is the only thing I can open. I've tried 3ds, dxf, mxs that I create and nothing opens. There is nothing at all in the object list. Ctrl-P works fine, but when I hit the Render button, nothing happens. Any ideas?

Yes it does. Want do you want to do about it? This is what it is. We can't go backwards, only forwards. If you want someone to say you have a right to feel frustrated, I'd say of course you do. But we've got what we've got now.. let's work it. Stop typing, have a beer, and get some bugs posted. That's actually something positive you can do, and it actually makes a difference, that's all! If screaming and being angry all day made Maxwell faster or more stable, I'd say have at it, but it doesn't! Let's just be practical now. Please.

repeat... can jpg file be loaded.. it seems to me not.. am i right or not?
what kind of type of files can be used as bitmap?

This is exactly what I saw before. It was awhile ago; trying to remember what solved it. I know I had to make sure that I only had ONE path in the MAXWELL_ROOT environment variable, that was the Next Limit\Maxwell\ with no mxcl and I only added the Next Limit\Maxwell\mxcl\ variable to the PATH system variable. That allowed me to open Studio with no problems and launch real renders from the little Render icon in Studio. Does that work for you?

**EDIT: CONFIRMED, I cannot launch a render from the .mxs directly ("unknown argument"). I CAN get the render using the little render icon in Studio.

preview seems to give much better risult than the render..
