Or multiple objects with instances etc.

If I try to rotate a collection of parts they always, always go flying all over the place, regardless of reseting there centers or any sequence I can think of. It means after I have a good studio setup and I want a reverse angle of a setup in studio I have no chance of just doing a simple rotate!

Thanks!

Hi B-Kandor,

We've been getting the same issues you describe. I also had it in V2 so it isn't new. The only temporary fix I've found is to delete the group and reclone a new one. Exit Studio and restart and most of the time it seems to fix the problem. When I've looked closer it appears the rotate command doesn't use the group objects common centre but one which is offset somewhere causing the rotation to spiral the groups objects outward?

I think it depends from which app the objects where created and if they had any initial transforms. For these cases it's always best to zero out any transforms in your main app right before exporting. Then create a group in Studio and make sure when you rotate that you only have the group selected.

Maybe a fast workaround in your case would be to use the scene rotate feature found under the Edit menu in Studio. This will just rotate the entire scene to the angle you set.

Hello Mihai,

Thanks for the tip. In my situation the objects were cars and trees imported from Sketchup into DataCAD prior to exporting to MS. All components were exploded to their base elements removing any sub-grouping. The objects were then re-grouped as one before export. The odd thing is that the ungrouping of the object in MS appears random - sometimes it works ok, sometimes it doesn't. It appears the center command in MS isn't being adopted all the time when using rotate object causing the rotation to swirl the object entities outwards in a spiral rather than circular orbit.

Hi b-kandor,

You can try creating a group with all the objects you want to rotate, center or position the pivot of the group, apply the transformation to the group and take the objects outside the group again and should keep the new position.
