Hi,

I'm gonna have to start rendering a bottle with a label and a cap. I know I'm not the first one to ask questions on the subject, but after reading and watching tutorials, I am simply more than confused of what is the easiest/most efficient way to do it.

I'm using rhino for the 3d model. Of what I understood (correct me if I'm wrong), I don't have to give a thickness to the glass, I can leave it as a simple surface. For the label, I can simply do an offset of the region (surface) of 0.01m. What do I have to do with the sides? put a transparent plastic to cover the 0,01mm gap?

You should model the bottle as in real life, give it the accurate wall thickness. Otherwise it will render like a thick block of solid glass if it's simply a revolved surface.

The label can be just a single sided extracted surface from the bottle, offset a tiny amount. With the double sided material feature in V3, you can map the color label on one side, and map a plain white diffuse material on the other side of this single sided surface. The extracted surface can be rectangular, it doesn't have to follow the shape of the label in case it's round - just use layer masks for making unwanted parts invisible (use the same mask in both front and back materials). You can get away with a single sided surface if the label will be viewed mostly from the front. If it's more to the side then a tiny thickness would be better for more realism. No need to map these tiny sides, just use the same material as for the back of the label for example.
