Hi there,

I have an issue with my licenses:
- using 1 laptop that I'm working on most of the time with the RLM License Server installed - Maxwell works fine.

- having the laptop switched on and in the same network as my desktop computer - I can use the desktop to render stuff in Maxwell.

- having the laptop switched off - I cannot start any render on the desktop due to a license error.

Could someone please explain to me how it works that I don't have to switch on the laptop to use the desktop? Thanks!

As far as I know the RLM Server has to be installed on a computer that is "always on" somewhere in your network for the other computers to get their license from. If you have your RLM installed on your laptop and turn that thing off, your desktop computer can not access the RLM server to get it's license!

Hope that helps....

Cheers Q!

thanks for the clarification though this is not what I had in mind when buying that license.

I didn't see any other option that even remotely behaves like maxwell 1 or 2 licenses that could be started from both computers without the other being active or a license management system... a pity. (and NO, I don't want to buy a 2nd standalone version just to not have to switch on the laptop with the RLM when I want to render something on the desktop)

No no......simply install the RLM server also on your desktop. The license scheme allows for that. Just follow the licensing instructions on it, and also install RLM, choosing the second option in the license activator once it pops up:
