Hello,

I've been searching for a couple hours this morning, to no avail, for a good method on how to put decals (e.g. recycle symbol, company logo) onto product renderings.

I'm using solid works and would really like to render the decals inserted in solidworks, but from what I've been reading this isn't possible. Does anyone know if this has changed in V3?
I found this video on the Maxwell youtube channel, which appears to show decals being rendered in solidworks in the Fire window. Does anyone know how they are doing this?

From what I can tell it is showing a solidworks decal being rendered in fire, because maxwell material decals that I've made and applied aren't showing in the solidworks viewer, only the fire window.

Does anyone know of any up to date posts or links that would cover putting logos/artwork onto renderings? Using a maxwell material I am struggling to get the size and location of the logo correct.

Thanks a bunch!

Hello Kipple123,

Unfortunately there is no way to create UV maps in Solidworks. The best way to add logos and labels is to convert your artwork to DXF and import into Solidworks. From there you can create splitlines and assign appropriate materials/colors to the resulting surfaces.

I'm guessing the 'decals' in the model were made with splitlines. If they were images they would have the same colors as in the render.

As for Seghier's remarks, Solidworks is a NURBS modeler. It is only converted to polygons when being sent to the render engine so prior to that action there are no polygons on which to map UV textures. You can place an image on to a flat surface but aligning and scaling are difficult at best. If you are trying to place an image on to a curved surface the result is hit or miss if the curvature is very small. If the curvature is large or compound there is just no way to map it.
