Well, looks like I have to do that next.

I'm already dreading remote rendering (Team Viewer, RDP or other) when on the road with the laptop (that holds the RLM license manager), starting render jobs at the office and then leaving to a client location with the laptop in the luggage... will the nodes stop rendering with the licensing laptop removed from the network? Let's see...

What I'm really struggling to understand is why it works the first time you license Maxwell? Are you sure it works when you first license it? What does the log file say right after you license it?

Do you have more than one LAN adapters, or virtual ones (if you check with ipconfig /all)?

Hi there,

no, only one WLAN adapter, only one MAC address, which is shown to be identical under OSX and W7, as it should be.

What do you mean by "when I first license it"? When I bought the V3 upgrade, I went through the licensing process and Maxwell worked. Then, I rebooted into OSX to do some stuff there and, when I rebooted back to W7, I had to license again, as this thread describes. So, in that sense, it has never worked.

I never had such issues with Autodesk's FlexLM license manager or ANSYS license manager, for example, when rebooting or switching on my laptops; MATLAB, no problem, too.

The question still is, why the licenser log shows (expected: 14109fda3e2e, we are: 14109fda3e2d)? Why is it expecting a MAC address that does not exist? How can that be? Puzzling, isn't it?

Well the problem you described is that it worked only after first licensing it, but not after rebooting. I'm wondering if you can repeat that, so we start fresh.

First, delete the RLM service:

First stop the service (it's called rlm_nl), then open a cmd prompt, browse to where rlm is installed (that would be C:\Program Files\Next Limit\rlm if you haven't changed the install location), and then in the command prompt write:
Code: Select all
 rlm -delete_service rlm_nl
Confirm in the Services control panel that the service is no longer in the list

Delete the "rlm" folder found in C:\Program Files\Next Limit

Delete the "licenses" folder found in C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell

Uninstall Maxwell

Make sure no Maxwell folder is left under C:\Program Files\Next Limit

Reboot

Install Maxwell and making sure also the rlm server is checked in the installer components

After install, the license activator should pop up. Choose the second licensing option and enter the data.

Now, take a look in the C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses. Copy both lic files that you find there in another location. Open the "maxwell_suite_floating.lic" and check what it says, if it's the correct MAC adress.

Start Maxwell (not Studio, but Maxwell) and see if you don't get any licensing errors.

Reboot and see if the licensing still works. If not, check the licenses folder and compare that lic file with your copy to see if anything changed in it.

I did that, twice, remember? After your initial assistance, I wiped the SSD and re-installed W7 and all my software - and then Maxwell. That yielded the exact same problem.

I will try what you describe below, when I'm not rendering...

I have not yet tried what you described above, because I needed to render various jobs. However, for whatever reason, I do not need to enter the product key after each reboot or OSX to Windows 7 switch. So, for the moment the problem has disappeared without me having changed anything on the laptop, no software updates, OS updates, or other.

I just recently purchased Maxwell Render. I am running windows 7 64 bit. I am having the same identical problem except I am node locked and don't have the RLM server issue, but everything
else sounds the same. I installed, activated, used the plugin in FormZ, and also in 3dsMax (where it crashed Max every time I used it) and also in standalone mode, and after a few days, possibly a week, tonight I went back to try using it again and it tells me in form Z (maxwell fire) that I am running in demo mode. when trying to render in any of the situations, it asks me to activate it, although it shows on my account as already activated if I understand it correctly.
