Hi.I recently got my new MacPro and want to move the existing RLM License Server from my old MacPro to the new machine.

Do I have to delete the files that are saved under user/shared/nextlimit on my old MapPro or how do I get the two licenses I own to run again?

WHAT TO DO????

THANKS

Your floating license can be activated 3 times I think, so:

1. Uninstall the RLM server already running on the older computer. Look in the docs for details on uninstalling the RLM server on OSX. http://support.nextlimit.com/display/mx ... +Licensing (expand the "Installing the RLM server" section).

2. Remove any .lic files from this older computer. (you could leave the "maxwell_license.lic" file, and change it to point to the new computer where RLM is running, but lets keep it easy).

3. Install the RLM server on your new machine following precisely the instructions in the link above
4. Install Maxwell and run it.
5. When the license activator appears, choose the second licensing option, "Maxwell Render Suite - Floating (activate the RLM License Server or add more Floating seats or rendernodes to the existing one)."

6. Re-license Maxwell on the older computer, choosing the option "Maxwell Render Suite - floating (Connect to the RLM License Server already running)".

hi mihai, thanks for getting back so fast.I did what you told me to and the license server runs ok on the new MaPro. All good there. BUT, again I can not get the second license on the old MacPro to start Studio whiteout asking for the license. Starting Maxwell Render on the old MAcPro does not give me any error message and the correct license is to be found under the Help menu:

License type: FULL SUITE
User name: Carsten Quilitz
Company: Dipl. Ing. Carsten Quilitz
Issue date:
Expiration date: permanent
Issued by: NEXTLIMIT
License checked out from server ID: 10.0.1.99 (10.0.1.99)

IP address is also correct.

I remember from the last time we tried this, that there should be a maxwell_license.lic file in/Users/Shared/NextLimit/

I do not have any such file or folder... should I create that and write this in the file: HOST 10.0.1.99 ANY 5053

The installation should create theses folders and the file, right? Or do I have to manually create them?

THANKS

I punched in my IP address from the new MacPro 10.0.1.99 and it said... Casrten, you did it... no errors and all good. BUT as soon as i restart Studio I get the error message that I have to license Studio....

So do you have this folder and this maxwell_license.lic file on your old computer now, which points to the RLM server running on the new computer?

Ok, please do these steps exactly as I write them:

1. Open Studio
2. The license activator appears, correct?
3. Choose the option I mentioned in step 6
4. Do you get any error messages here, does it say a license file has been saved correctly?
5. If it said a license file was saved correctly, check to see that you now have a maxwell_license.lic file on this older computer.

That was the last thing you were supposed to do, as I wrote it as Step 6, not Step 1. Did you do it in the order I wrote initially?

Here no errors or anything, have a look BUT no maxwell_license.lic file has been created on my old MacPro!!!!!!

Hold on:
check that the license file(s) have been correctly saved in either /Users/Shared/NextLimit/rlm_nl/licenses (floating licenses) or /Users/<username>/Maxwell (node locked licenses)
in the computer running the RLM license server, you should have two license files called maxwell_suite_floating.lic (which is the main license file), and maxwell_license.lic (which is the file that contains the single line letting Maxwell know to which computer to connect to get its license from).
So do you have the maxwell_license.lic file in /Users/Shared/NextLimit/rlm_nl/licenses ?

Funny ... right!? Yes Studio was working fine on this oldMacPro and the other license was running on an oldMacPro using Windows 8.

BUT, I had the same trouble the first time around and you guys helped me out as well. Same procedure but this time around it does NOT work....
