Once again, I am new to Maxwell so this might be something simple to answer and hopefully it is. I am sorry I haven't had much time to watch tutorials because I am working on a project with a tight deadline while trying to work Maxwell into my workflow.

I am making a hanging light that will hang down from about a 16 ft ceiling. So I want to put an emitter inside of it. The light will need to shoot out both sides of the light. Now I have read that you should only put emitters on flat 1 sided geometry? Or would I put it on a cylinder like a real florescent tube?

Thanks

Yes, you can apply emitters to any geometry - just that in most cases, a flat single polygon plane is going to be the most efficient. But it's not a huge difference applying it to a single poly plane vs a cylinder with lots more polys. It won't affect the render time that much.

Okay, thanks. Is there a maximum number of emitters you can have? Or like an amount not to exceed? Because I have a shot where there is like 25 of these hanging lights all with bulbs in them and my plugin is draggggging

Yeah, I think I broke it. I can't get anything to fire or export. Freezes whenever I try to export to studio or fire from Modo.

7.3 mil GL surfaces

24 Emitters

But get this. It freezes at 40.4 percent. Coincidence?

Is there some other way I can get this into the studio to try it other than the plugin?

are all the emitters grouped as 1 mxm emitter?
have you tried instancing 1 light to create the others ?
in all honesty pretty hard to say without seeing your scene Cody, is there a particular reason you need to go into studio and not work in modo and straight to render. The only obvious one would be if you are using maxwell grass for example. Anyway ill pm you my email address if you want me to see if I can help.

I would start with turning all your meshes off .Then 1 by 1 enable checking that fire launches after each new mesh is enabled . To see if you can isolate which mesh(possible material is the issue). Come to think of it the only time I've ever had behaviour as you describe is when using non modo originated meshes that I have imported into modo.

Hi everyone. I got it.

I do have them all as one mxm and did get them all working. I just had to restart my computer and it must have cleared up some cache or something.

For some reason though. I have my camera set at fstop 2 and my shutter at 60 and my iso 100, but I have to set the lights at 6000watts and 63lm/w in order for them to do anything. That is with a maxwell environment on with maxwell sky set to .1 intensity....

Am I missing something?
