deadalvs,
i dont know why you would need to do a cooperative on a scene like this. reached 15 in 2.52hrs on this end (SL 12-13 probably looked the same) sure the poly count is high in the scene, but the environment allows for quicker render. i could see this being more useful if it were an interior scene with the same amount of polys. nonetheless, i have .mxi for you, just tell me where you would like me to put it. (197Mb)

thomas, very clever...... hadnt thought of it like that :D

It's a great idea, however, just one caution. I'm a freelancer and I just finished a job this weekend for a major cosmetics manufacturer to make a billboard (you can see my plead for help in my thread about "backwards planning on sampling level"). Before I took the job, I signed a non-disclosure agreement stating that the work would not be published independently, which is pretty standard for most commercial work. If you're up against a deadline, it's probably with a client who doesn't want his commissioned work to get out before he decides to release it. And even when it's released, most times you have no proprietary rights on the work. Sharing scene files would be a break in that agreement for me, and would risk losing the job, and that client for future work, and therefore I could never do it.

As much as I would like to trust the generosity of those on this website, unless you personally know the person who is offering to help it is a real risk to share the work that someone else is paying for.

Apart from that, if anyone has any non-commercial work they need help rendering, I'd be happy to help.

just upload the file somewhere and link it here, so it can be downloaded... thanks for the work !

* * *

actually, that really was just a test-drive.
i know this image is simple as hell, i just wanted to show that there are people around that are willing to help if there is really a problem for a user once.
i know also that exterior shots are not really a problem with maxwell, thus i decided to look which SL we can reach with this image with all donated .mxi files.

as Mihai proposed, there could be a section once where competitions or independent team-work could happen, so this image here goes in that direction.

'ey dilbert !

i totally agree with You in this situation and this is why i want to make this work. being on such a forum gets You to know people that have same interests and maybe sometimes even same philosophies in life and the more the discussions are going on (and people help another), the more You can trust them.
i do have a few people 'round here that i do trust and i would ask them to help me (actually i never do that based on my ignorance that i can do it all alone). but this would not work over an official forum. You can not post «confident» data here, as You say.

for next time, just PM someone You trust... :)

thanks for sharing thoughts and showing also the will to help !

Mihai...

You asked me about a section on the forum...

let's discuss this again.

* * *

i think that this community here is very motivated and has a great potential, also to do things together. but to let this happen more artistically than in the OT section or somewhere similar, i think it would be necessary to have a «platform» to assimilate.
this could lead to a new topic between TUTORIALS AND GOODIES at the first forum page. possible title «group development», with a sticky in it for the rules and license stuff

afterwards, each thread would contain active projects, of course and finishes projects would get the title «FINISHED_[old project name]» or the thread would be closed by an admin.

there could be a plethora of different projects, just with the stipulation that multiple users have to work on scene/image.

* * *

what do You think ?
i guess the feedback i got was positive... !
:P

by the way. is there a way that multiple users could edit posts just in this section's first post? like this, people could add paths to data so it would not get lost in all other posts...

And then there are some of us who are very displeased in being used just to prove a point.......

Don't ever waste my time like this again! :evil:

i don't get it.

i can not do more than write down my intentions.

i said i'd do a trial how it could work. noone was forced to do anything and it was not my intention to use anyone...

what's the problem ???
please read again my posts and think again about this post You just wrote down.

did i use You to prove a point?
did i waste Your time by wanting something positive for this forum?
is it bad to try work things out ?

all i wanted is to see if people react to this thread and would help.

i hope You have just a bad day :!:

Yes, I think that would be a good idea, but first of all we need more clarification on commercial texture usage. I'm not sure if specifying that the ones helping you are "temp employers". Even if that was ok from a purely legal sense, I don't feel comfortable with it from a moral point of view.

I don't think this would be good for security, and also I'm not sure if it's possible. But since the original poster can edit the post, and also users can edit their own posts, I don't think it will be a problem with organization.

Btw, if you wanted just to make a test run, then you should have mentioned that when giving the scene :) Writing HELP, I'm on a deadline, some understandibly feel a bit tricked now.....but lets hope it doesn't damage your idea..

I have to say, I also only saw your call for help, didn't read the rest...
I have no problem with that, but my PC is at home now still running your scene,

I have no problem with it, but I do think you should have been more clear about it, I always love to help other people out, but not just for a test run, that's about 15 hours test Time...

O well, moving on..

Edit, now should be no :oops: :wink:

i'd hate it if it damaged the idea.

of course, this sentence was rehetorical, based on the content of the discussion before... seems not to have been clear to others. yes.
