i perfectly agree with thomas.

there isnt really too much to complain inv1.1.
maxwell is a very new thing, and all software has bugs.
as for speed, i think it wont get much faster with this quality.

i also bought it for 395, so it was a very good deal indeed....

only one thing i would beg, it would be better to do more smaller upadtes with minor fixes or minor upgrades. its a good thing that nl want us to surprize with great major free version like 1.2, but i would be better for the users to have minor fixes available faster. this might be a bit more of work i know, but it would make the wait easier, and give the developers in the end more time to make the big and interesting updates.

cheers

dont know if this is something big enough to be complained of ..........
but frankly as long as my layout file start beeing staffed with many object and\or object layers LW Plugin start crashing more and more .. in the end the frequency of crashes had prevented me from using maxwell at all.. because i consider working with MS a lame option
is that enough? :D
currently i am trying to learn other render engine while waiting for this state of thing to improve....
i am not happy about thiat because i consider Maxwell the best under many aspects

I would prefer this too, but sometimes for pure technical reasons (not company policy at all), this just isn't possible and the jump from 1.1 to 1.2 could be one of those times.

Beside the combination of new features vs bug fixes there is also the combination of external (visible) changes, and internal changes. Sometimes the internal changes are important to make in order to have the software truly advance, instead of adding and adding on top of something that will sooner or later be a dead end (3DMax anyone? :P ).

There are plenty of examples like this, perhaps Vray 1.47 to 1.5 is one of them and why it took so much time. Or Softimage 3D to XSI. XSI 1 was seen as inferior in many ways to SI 3D, too many bugs etc. It was a painful transition for the company, but the huge internal changes had to be made to provide a new base for development.

So these mechanisms are not always clear to the user (what's the big deal going from one point release to another is the general perception), yet the time it takes is not because of company politics or that developers are lazy, it's just at that time, the software needed it. It is the difference between developing something with no long term vision or plan, and it gives you the posibility to have many updates (3DMax again), or taking the time when you realize it's necessary to make bigger overall changes.

Remember plus-one? ...cost NL $1500 in my case.
Wow. Yes ! They did give us a free extra license. Thanks for the reminder Jeremy.
As you know, ... I'm using it and I have to tell ya, ... it's very handy !

...thanks NL ! :)

yes mihai,

sure i understand,(i am partly in software develoment too).
your points are right of course if this is the case for 1.2. better so than the 3dmax way.

just a reminder, if its easily possible to make a minor change, do it NL:-)
maybe after 1.2 there is a small 1.2.1 or a 1.2.2 etc...to fix most annoying things...i think then it is easier to wait longer for 1.3 or 1.5...

for me i can wait 1 or 2 month for 1.2, just make it good!
cheers

I think that the very fact that one is here on the forum regularly, expresses faith in the potential of Maxwell.

I too look forward to 1.2, and that is why I found this thread.

I cant't wait, I want 1.2 now!
I will not wait another hour! Well - maybe a couple of hours, or a few days at most - but not more than a week - thats for sure! I'm going in a short vacation now, so it does not have to be this or the next week, but it must be a week soon! In february or march. I really need 1.2, at least before easter, or before its summer. In the meantime I will just try to learn to use 1.1 ...

lets just hope that we wont get another laconic " it'll be ready soon " without knowing when or what to expect, one of those time was the RC time and the all engine and policie changed so i'm not that thrilled and enthousiasm anymore despite the visible potential of maxwell render...
