This scene is too simple for a comparisson... if you check the glass frame agains the wall there are no caustics produced by Fryrender and you can clearlly see the caustics produced by Maxwell.. With both VRAY and BUSYRAY not producing the caustics against the glass frame either.

I would like to see a scene that really tests the render with SSS, Caustics, Large Glass, Clipmap, etc. And with more complex materials.

By this scene's standards if you include renders from http://www.hungrycat.hu/ and http://www.winosi.onlinehome.de/ you might have an impression that those renders are finished products. The test scene needs to be way more complex.

edit: "glass frame" instead of "gass frame" oops typo.

Could be due to a fast disassembler software ... :P ... they just need to figure out the caustics area of the code now.

Irrelevant.

In the patent field, if a prior art device contains components A,B and C and a new proposed design incrorates A,B,C and adds a "D" .... it still infringes. The examiner may pass it as a patent, but it maybe questionable in courts later.

Misconception:
If the components of a device were pre-existing then it is not novel.

Actual:
Novelty is defined as a unique combination of components. The components might be pre-existing, but if they are combined in new (previously) unatemtped ways to form a single mechanism with unique character then it is considered novel over the prior art.

Maxwell needs to be seen in its a entirety ... as a combination comprising (but not limited to) spectral engine + physical camera + physical sky + physically based material system in one rendering package that functions as a digicam.
What's your point? My point is that two engines have had the same launch point. That's why I used italics.

And my comment was relevant. You just didn't get it.

And thanks isma for posting these comparisons. :)
I think in europe we don't have software patents yet.

Damn looks like Fryrender will have everything what I miss the most in Maxwell. And i'm not talking about the proclaimed speed...
