Apart from the fact that the editor refuses to start from the SU menu and refuses to load most materials the few ones that I succeed to apply appear very often scrambled (like described in another thread already).

So my question: has anybody achieved proper textured renderings with the SU plugin on a Mac yet? Would be useful to know, because if no one had I could stop wasting my time.

Not only do you have to put each material on at face level it should be on a separate layer representing that material. I then export each layer on it's own. It's a little tedious but works, every now and then a face isn't mapped properly so then that face gets isolated and exported separately and everything is fine.

Hm. I always made sure that all faces showed the correct material in the "color by layer" mode (so all textures were properly separated on their own layers) as well as in the normal mode. I also assured myself that the normals of each face were correct. The scrambling must have a different reason.

Exporting layers separately means you have to use the studio, doesn't it?
