Good announcement Mike, isn't it a good feeling to come to the forum and have positive feedback. We really need to see stuff like this on a continuous basis or at the very least a progress report every week.

As far as the cooperative rendering feature goes, do you know if it can be run as a service in Windows? The way my farm is set up it feature is a must and from what Maya has told me this was something that should be working by the release of 1.0.

Again very nice job
:)

as already said on page 1: very nice announcement, looks really promising!

but for me still the most important point is the "caustics/sunlight -behind-glas-problem".

what does
. Sun caustics behind glass improved and the team is working on it.
as stated by tom, mean?

how can it be improved? is it not more like working or not working? or is the meanig of this statement, that it only works in some situations?

i am looking forward to any statement concerning this problem, because as many people here, i am mostly involved in arch-vis-work...

no matter, what the answer will be, nice announcement :-)

I swear those weekly progress reports would be about as exciting as a tax audit.
  • Mon: Sun stopped working with this morning's release.
Tue: Sun fixed last night, rendering dispersion test.
    Wed: still rendering dispersion test.
Thur: ...can't install the new update because the power went out during the dispersion test. Must re-render.
Fri: Sun stopped working with this morning's release but it's fixed again.

Sat: Well, Maxwellians, it's been another exciting week of Maxwell testing: The sun broke twice but was fixed both times, and dispersion's looking cool.
Isn't there something good on TV? :D

Hi Maxer,

Windows Services are very specific to Windows NT (+), and with Maxwell's cross-platform nature, I would suspect that this would be one of the last features to be implemented. I am curious as to your particular configuration, why is it required for Maxwell to be run as a Service?

I don't want to hijack the thread so I'll just say that 90% of my farm is desktop machines that are only accessible after work. We have a program where I can enter the number of CPU's I need to work on a job, the computer will go around and start up that number of PC's once the machine has either been logged off of or shut down for the night. Once up and running at the login screen the only way to use the computer is to run the programs in the background as a service, since logging into 100+ computers is crazy, programs that run as a service is a must.
