u.biq, if you don't know the story, getting RS1+ to handle that situation is like teaching a cow to fly; (maybe you could?) If anyone can, NL can. Progress is being made, and they're working hard on it... But Rs2 was developed because it can do this stuff in its sleep... stay tuned. The journey's FAR from over!

Well, this is great news... really :D

Can't wait to get my hands on a working OS X version.

3 questions:

 The fresnel falloff curve - is it part of the next RC?

 Normal map support?

 According to Tom we can create 32-bit HDR output (Great news btw!). Is there any way to deal with vignetting during the conversion of mxi > hdr?

Thanks!

Ok...now for the questions.

--Multi-Light Illumination Control --
This feature is going to be the best selling point of Maxwell in my opinion, but one thing i want to know is...ok... i have a room, with 4 ceiling lights, 2 table lamps and 2 windows. I set up my lights using the new -- Lighting Presets -- and thats it?? i just hit render and then i can change intensities or just the sun light or what ever time of day i choose and i can preview it in real time?
Yes, except for sun position. That you can't move. Intensity, yes, position, no.
Who ever did the SIMON animation, i love it... Its great!!! thats my favorite song and i did played simon like crazy back in the day. I bet it was Tom.
Nope. Perhaps he will reveal himself!
The -- MXED - The Standalone Material Editor -- its just pure love!!!! God this is so great.... but until i have it fully working in Sketchup and Archicad 8.1 i wont believe it.
Have faith, my son.
-- Objects Hidden to Camera -- great, but will i be able to hide the shadow as well?? This will be great if it is implemented just like --Multi-Light Illumination Control -- if i can hide any object in real time, which will be great if i just in the last moment dont want that table...or that chair, just hide it and it will be gone, from the scene of course.
Not sure yet. It's amazing Maxwell can do this reality-bending gag at all! But don't think we didn't think of this question 8)
-- HDR/MXI Lighting --
I have never use this, i dont know if it is implemented in the mac version, but hope it is and it is as simple as using normal HDRI maps in all the other renders softwares.
Every bit as easy, more flexible.

for the peace of human kind in this forum, dont let this happen again, just give us a weekly 50 word announcement and we will be fine, i think.
Noted. :D

Does it mean there won't be any update/release before WEEKS ???
Lets hope not u.big. Jus a few little tiny screenshots of the studio will be great.

It was not me this time. :)

Completely hiding is already possible, not in realtime.

Yes, as easy as others and more than that...

Love it, but i dont see it working in my daily architectural work.
You're welcome, so you have something more.

Looks great, nice job. the animation is great.
Thx  :D
Nicolas Rivera wrote:-- Cooperative/Network Rendering --
Hope this works with multi platforms, mac and pc's, or mac, macintel and pc's...oh...wait are the macintel going to be interpreted as pc's too...God i'm confused.
Well, yes. Macintel..uhmm...who knows :)

I consider myself being a new Maxwell user. I bought the program
almost a year ago but since I haven't been able to make much productive work I guess I 'm a newbie. Also, I don't know much about CG, I am an engineer and I do mostly exterior renderings. I also do some interiors for stores I construct or decorate.
I want to say my opinion as an inexperienced user (HOW DARE YOU??? :o )...... for all these new Maxwell features.

*MXED - The Standalone Material Editor -> Speechless!!! This is great! Also the material wizard is very useful.

*Multi-Light Illumination Control : The best selling part as someone said!

*HDR/MXI Lighting : Very nice, but I could live without it...

*Objects Hidden to Camera : Really useful, I am going to use it a lot!

*Lighting Presets : Perfect for interiors, to show reality!

*Complex IOR/SSS/Dispersion : Gives the best result possible

*Anisotropy : This is a must have feature, it should be added. Thanks NL

*Cooperative/Network Rendering : Don't need it but I know the importance.

Some suggestions...
1. Hurry up guys!!! Now that you showed us this great stuff, we're gonna eat you alive in two weeks! :D
2. Please, write a detailed manual this time, all these features will be too much to try to find out from this forum, I guess there will be a lots of newbies soon...(I wish you that)
3. Dielectrics and sunlight is the most important problem to solve now, so please stay focused on that...
4. I didn't like the absence of specific rendertimes in the announcement. I would like to see something like " With RC5-> 50h , with RCxx -> 5h". This would be great news because now I can only think of "He, who must not be named (...Harry Potter)" renderer for production work.
5. I know it is too early to ask, but please go on with the plugins, I think that combinations like Revit and Maxwell is a total winner :!: :!: :!:

Some wishes (WHAT???)
1. Displacement mapping
2. Hi-Res renderings.... VERY important.
3. Some of the MXST wishes like undo, camera handling etc...
4. HD parameter back, very important.

When we generate some proper renders, we'll be sure to include rendertimes, don't worry. These were very quick one-offs to help visualize some of the features. Some of them are still rendering, actually ;) I think I just updated one of mine 10 minutes ago :P

_Mike

P.S. By the way, anisotropy IS already added, and fully mappable!
