Hello together

First a list of my Hard- and Software, i did use:
- Apple Powerbook G4, 1.67 GHz, 1 GB DDR SDRAM, Mac OSX 10.4.5
- SketchUp 5.0.233, Maxwell Studio and Render RC5

My head problem is, that I can't exporting complex Scenes from SketchUp to Maxwell Render as mxs File.
With complex i mean more than only 4 Cubes.

1) my small test, which functioned:

Download this Scene for SketchUp

2) I did delete the 4 cubes and provided for it a desk from the freely
downloadable Componets for Sketchup (http://www.sketchup.com/?sid=38) on the soil.
First I did use the Component Architectrue>Furniture_Interior>Tables> the table i did mark with the N°1.

Here the the image from the scene in SkechUp:

Download this Sketchup Scene

After the export I had also an error-log-file.
Download the Error-Log-File
But the maxwell render did start to calculate with some missing textures (the wood on the desk and the photo on the desk.
And also strange black edges developed. See the next picture:

3) I deleted this desk and replaced him by another (marked with the number N°2).
Here the picture of the Scene in Sketchup:

The scene was not exported into Maxwell Render. In place of a picture
developed only an error log file, which says to me unfortunately not
much. Basically I had with beta fewer problems in this connection!
Download the Errorlogfile

Can someone introduce itself, what runs here falsely?
Is it only a mac problem?
Can someone help me?

In the first one it looks like a path problem, you could just copy the textures to another folder, without spaces or special characters in it.

Also there is perhaps a normals problem with the black edges. You can probably fix this in Studio by selecting the object and in the object params table, choosing Recalc normals. That should align them properly.

The second one, it looks like the Maxwell plugin is finding strange geometry in that model and refuses to go further. Not much you can do. Plugins need an update, and it's good you mentioned exactly which objects cause the problem.

That particular geometry (N°2) looks to have some fine booleans which perhaps are causing the problems. Have you tried with a model of your own?

First thank you for your response.

I began once with the 3D structure
of my dwelling in Sketchup. With beta I could export to maxwell Render:

Now with the new Skechup-Plugin and RC5 i just have a 8.4MB big error log file. It seems that the Skechup Plugin became still many more incorrect!

for the black edges...in sketchup.. go up to 'view'; 'rendering'; 'monochrome'...and make sure the eges are tan and not blue...

as far as the textures, I would retexture it ..i have never had any luck getting the textures that come on su components to render w/o redoing them..

As I said in another thread already, the SU faces seem to be intersected and changed seriously during the export, so checking the normals in SU before is of no use, because the plugin will mess them up anyway. Black faces are all you'll get as a result of your work (if Maxwell doesn't refuse to create an mxs file at all, which will be the case if your model consists of something more complex than a couple of cubes). The plugin is rubbish, that's all.

SketchUp files, and components, have low-res versions of the textures embedded in to the file, so when you import a component you can see the texture even if you don’t have that texture as a separate file. Maxwell can only use the separate bitmap, so you have to extract it from the component. You can do this by exporting the component as a 3ds file with the export textures option checked. You then have to open the material and reconnect to that bitmap file.
It would be nice if there would be an export missing textures option also in the mxs export.

The other export problem seems to bee mac related. Did you try exporting without making any Maxwell material assignments in SketchUp? The plugin is now making all un-coplanar faces with mxs settings separate objects, and creates a separate material for every face, so the mxs files become gigantic.
I hope Pavol is lurking on the forum, so he sees the error log…
