I don't care that.
Procedurals aren't realistic anyway!
(expect terragen clouds ;-)
Waves, tiles, noise - noise is useful in so many different places. Stripes even. Cells. Procedurals are good for you, and they taste good too.

I can live without procedurals in RC. you can always use your own 3D app. procedural map or save the map in app. as image and use as texture in the studio.

mike,
I wanted to ask, have all these Ateam images being posted been images rendered right out of Maxwell Studio or do those latest rc plugins that were released also write acceptable mxs files for rc5? - have you been doing your work in M~X studio RC5 or using maya and just rendering using the rc5 engines, or combo? (at one time i remeber reading that from now on all mxs files were gonna be valid through v1, thats why i'm asking if that latest rc mayall plug still writes acceptable mxs files, or has the mxs format-syntax- been revamped again?)

From the images we've seen it certainly seems like RC5 puts us back on track. So the question for the A-team (Mike) and NL is....

How close are we to a download being available?

Actually I think it's an Isaac Hayes song.

"I'm gonna unbias your render
I'll make your aperature feel right
We won't need no reflected caustics
When I turn off the light!"

OK, now that's just funny. I'd share that with my friends, except that they'd look at me funny and wonder what the heck I was going on about. Still, it gave me a much needed giggle. Thanks

i can highly recommend GENETICA a software that uses procedurals to generate tileable bitmaps. its nodebased and makes super-complex tiles possible with a few clicks. (but you need some time to get behind all the parameters). there is also a solid library of presets that you can change to your need.

after done you can enter the resolution you want to have as output and it renders the texture.

http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/genetica.htm

before i was using darktree alot but because of the antialiasing issues i went to genetica and its a real gem.

EDIT: i just checked their webpage again and in early 2006 there comes genetica 2.5 as a free update with a feature that creates automatic color, bump, normal, displacent, specular, luminance aso maps!!! no more backed in highlights.
i think its the best graphik software in years!!...ggg hype-mode off

I sometimes use this

http://www.allegorithmic.com

MapZone is a free photoshop plugin that can make tilable procedurals

I'm sure that it's not as complex or in depth as what you can do with Genetica, but it's hard to beat the price!

jackb602: I agree, I think we are waiting for a long time now. It would be better to have something to work with and say our opinion and maybe contribute to A-Team's work.
I haven't used RC 1-4 for more than 2-3 hours so RC generally and MXST is totally new to me. I would appreciate to have something to play with until we can make some production work. Meanwhile I am using beta. I haven't seen any RC renders as realistic as beta's renders.
