Ok, I think I understand..., What about the rendertime question?.

Thank´s for your answers, is good to hear something from NL team, although you are not in the NL team... (mmm, I got confused)

That's right.. I've been authorized to say a few words and post a few images because I'm as close to the "user experience" with the current Maxwell as anyone, and I speak English natively. Plus, I empathize with the desire to just know what's going on, good or bad. Better late than never, I think, is the best option for all concerned.

As you avoid the rendertime question I understand you can´t say anything about it..., it´d be great to know the rendertime of that cornell box...

Thank´s anyway. :)

Oh no, sorry... I didn't avoid it.. I just don't know it. Most of our renders are watermarked with that sort of data, but a couple of the "hero" images weren't. I just don't remember. But it wasn't bad, as I recall.

That´s OK, then you could tell Victor or Tom about it so they remember to post the rendertime of the sample images in the announcement forum... (if it´s possible though) :)

As maxwell is very popular in the architectural viz world. Will there be a two-point perspective camera in maxwell's 1.x?

I'm with you brother 8)

There is no smiley and you seem to be on the edge these days. Did you mean my post and did you mean this seriously? Hope not.

I'll venture a guess that he meant, "no repetitive posts, please." And I think he was just being fast, more than being upset. But this question has been asked before... we're just trying to keep that to a minimun.

Don't sweat it.

Could be Mike, but I posted this question weeks ago so that can hardly count as repetitive and just reminded Eric that I'm supportive of his request as he said ' The conversation about architectural lenses does not appear to have been moved...so I persist (it being important'

(and tried to mimick your language in answering him :))

With the use of shift, tilt, and swing you can control parallel line convergence, location of the horizon line, and the plane of critical focus.

The mathematics are simple (I believe it is under the "Scheimflug Principle" of photography)... but it does bring up a problem.

Vignietting can be a serious issue (especially with wide angle lenses) as you capture your image from the extremes of the image circle (by using shifts and tilts) created by the camera lens on the focal plane (as it is dimmer there..). So a "center-weight" filter would need to be a part of the formulation to compensate.
Yep, I have discussed that several times: A shifted cam will suffer from vignetting, and Maxwell has cos^4 vignetting (= aka natural vignetting, which is not depending on f-stop). No other lens errors are modeled, so it's actually pretty easy to do: Render a region off center with a leveled camery, and compensate the vignetting.

I still think that sunlight is more important though ;-)

Quick question - I've been having trouble understanding if the RC5 core is

a) a refined version of the Beta core (only integrated w/new materials, etc)

b) an entirely new core that we haven't seen before

c) something else?

Is this something you have enough knowledge/permissions to respond to?

c) It's a different animal than the Beta core.. shares much of the same stuff, but it's neither the Beta nor something entirely new. Parts of it are entirely new, I suppose, like the part that plays nice with the new materials... but there's a nice helping of that Beta Love in there.
