Please Mike if you can do it move the DPI questions and answers(with my stupid comments too) to new topic.
not rc1+ but RS1+paxreid wrote:Mike.
I am not sure if I am off-base with this question but is the RC5 a temporary fix to what will ultimately be 1.0? Tom's rendering is referencing engine rc1+. Beta was rc1 correct? I was just curious if it was something to get the materials working correctlyand the users happy, and when the new engine (rc1-4) is finally worked out it will be incorprated into 1.0....
Just curious cause the word temporary fix seems to be creeping into the discussion quite a bit and was wondering if that was why.
Thanks.
Paxton
No, RC5 is a milestone on the road to 1.0. Tom's image reference Rs1+ shouldn't be taken too literally, but it more or less means an improved version of the engine used in the Beta. Improved in and of itself, and designed to work with the new material set. I've never used the term "temporary fix," but I've tried to make it abundantly clear that RC5 is only a step on the path to 1.0. It is not 1.0. Many features will not be implemented yet, or incomplete, subject to revision, etc. We've just been working with the developers to try and make it as fun to play with as possible, though I personally wouldn't be using it (or beta, for that matter) in any sort of production. That's 1.0-Land.paxreid wrote: is the RC5 a temporary fix to what will ultimately be 1.0?

This one always drives me nuts, but since it's just a text-fix, it may be way low on the priority list. But it hasn't actually "failed." It's just been "stopped."3dtrialpractice wrote:ps also in the rc1-4's at the end of image renderig no matter waht it always prompted "render Failed" does this still happen wit rc5?

Is there any chance you could post the rendertime of the "announcement threads" images?, specially the "cornell boxes" ones.
You've asked me this, brother, and I wasn't lying when I said I couldn't possibly answer this with any authority. I'm not the developers; I wouldn't begin to have enough expertise to make an informed estimate. I'm not a programmer, I don't work for NL, I'm not in the room... I am absolutely not qualified to answer your question.buffos wrote:Mike its nice that you are trying to calm everyone down and explain what is going on but i would like a sincere guess.
Apples and oranges. They're not building on top of the beta and just going forward from there. Materials are an entirely new thing, and Studio was a new thing. There's a lot of new stuff, actually, so it's not the same path anymore. Come to think of it, if I could answer this question, we could've probably derived an answer to buffos' question. Alas...VORTICE3D wrote:Hey Mike;
Could you point us on the place between beta and the final version is RC5?, I mean, RC5 is half way to final version?.
