For all your offtopic dpi remarks http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 088#104088

The technical camera could be modelled in the existing maxwell with two lenses. A bit slow I'm afraid but shift, tilt and swing are possible this way.

Mike.

I am not sure if I am off-base with this question but is the RC5 a temporary fix to what will ultimately be 1.0? Tom's rendering is referencing engine rs1+. Beta was rs1 correct? I was just curious if it was something to get the materials working correctlyand the users happy, and when the new engine (rc1-4) is finally worked out it will be incorprated into 1.0....

Just curious cause the word temporary fix seems to be creeping into the discussion quite a bit and was wondering if that was why.

Thanks.
Paxton

(corrected...thanks olivier)

No, RC5 is a milestone on the road to 1.0. Tom's image reference Rs1+ shouldn't be taken too literally, but it more or less means an improved version of the engine used in the Beta. Improved in and of itself, and designed to work with the new material set. I've never used the term "temporary fix," but I've tried to make it abundantly clear that RC5 is only a step on the path to 1.0. It is not 1.0. Many features will not be implemented yet, or incomplete, subject to revision, etc. We've just been working with the developers to try and make it as fun to play with as possible, though I personally wouldn't be using it (or beta, for that matter) in any sort of production. That's 1.0-Land.

Mike, Thanks for answering the questions so far to the best of your ability & being cautious with your answers.

i know there was a textures question posted, and your response was that you have loaded a 4k png file.

My question is in regards to MXI textures, since mxi emmiter didnt work properly in rc1-4, Have you guys had a chance to create an mxi texture from an hdri (or ever ldri) and apply it to a emmiter and does that emmiter emmit the source image properly?

havnt seen anyone ask about mxi emmiters in this thread yet..
would be super useful to have w/ rc5
thanks

ps also in the rc1-4's at the end of image renderig no matter waht it always prompted "render Failed" does this still happen wit rc5?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......yeah, it would... yeah, that'd be nice. I probably wouldn't count on it yet. I'm talking a bit out of school though. For all I know it's already in there and disabled for some reason that's a 2-second fix. It just "feels" further on down the line, to this tester anyway.

And you're right, I'm trying to be a bit cautious, but also as up-front as I can be. NDA's aside, I'm only a tester. I work with what they give me, for as long as they give me. I'm a huge pundit for issues I've seen brought up a lot in this thread, and so far nobody's brought up something we hadn't already asked about to one degree or another, so that's good. But our versions change sometimes twice a day and so information-wise, it's a bit like playing whack-a-mole. I don't want people to feel they'd been promised the Second Coming, when realistically, it's a milestone, nothing more, if a good one.

We're working on getting clearance for more images in coming days.

This one always drives me nuts, but since it's just a text-fix, it may be way low on the priority list. But it hasn't actually "failed." It's just been "stopped."

Bigger fish to fry, my friend.

Hey Mike;

Could you point us on the place between beta and the final version is RC5?, I mean, RC5 is half way to final version?.

And it would be great if you could answer my question because it may mislead between the DPI discussion...
Is there any chance you could post the rendertime of the "announcement threads" images?, specially the "cornell boxes" ones.

You've asked me this, brother, and I wasn't lying when I said I couldn't possibly answer this with any authority. I'm not the developers; I wouldn't begin to have enough expertise to make an informed estimate. I'm not a programmer, I don't work for NL, I'm not in the room... I am absolutely not qualified to answer your question.

And plus.. let's just, like.. get through RC5, ya know?

Apples and oranges. They're not building on top of the beta and just going forward from there. Materials are an entirely new thing, and Studio was a new thing. There's a lot of new stuff, actually, so it's not the same path anymore. Come to think of it, if I could answer this question, we could've probably derived an answer to buffos' question. Alas...
