Just a quick question (I think I read it somewhere before but I don't remember)...
Does the size of the HDR image influence noise/time on the render? should I use a smaller/blurrier image for the Illumination slot and a higher resolution image for the Reflection/Refraction slot?

No, the dimension or blurriness do not affect render speed or noise. Render speed is only affected by contrast of your map. For example, a sky with tiny sun may render slower than an overcast sky.
