Hi there,
I noticed that FIRE needs much more time to start rendering in Maxwell 3 compared to Maxwell 2.
Maya 2014, latest SP, latest Maxwell Plugin

Maxwell 3 = 41sec.
Maxwell 2 = 20sec.

There is a long pause with Maxwell 3 before FIRE even starts to export. This pause is not present in Maxwell 2. My guess would be that this pause is caused by the plugin communicating with the license server. This pause is also not present when the license server runs on the same machine and Maxwell is only making the connection to 127.0.0.1.

Is there any way to speed this up? This pause is really annoying if you start and stop FIRE alot.

Cheers, Florian

Hi Florian,

the only things i can think of are:

is there any firewall running in the client or the server machine?

Does the client machine access the license server machine using its hostname or the IP address? Maybe there's some slowness resolving the IP with the hostname.... In the client machine, the file maxwell_license.lic contains the address of the license server. Is this file "HOST myserver ANY 5053" or "HOST 192.168.1.23 ANY 5053" ?

And does this happen also with maxwell or studio or just with the plugin?

Regards.
Miguel.

I'll check that.

No idea since I never use studio. But I'll check it.

Thanks for the tipps.

Hi Miguel,
it seems to be a problem with the Maya plugin.
I changed the license file so that the client accesses the license server via IP but it makes no difference.

When I start FIRE from within Maya it takes approximately 20 sec. until FIRE starts to render. This is with an empty scene.
Full Restart from within Maya also takes 20 sec. Closing the FIRE window and opening it again also takes 20 sec.

When starting FIRE either in Maxwell Studio or Modo, it starts to render immediately.

System Infos:
Windows 7 x64
Maya 2014 (all Service Packs installed, node locked)
Maxwell Version 3.0.1 (also tried the latest Beta but nothing different there)
Maxwell Plugin Version 3.0.12

License Server is running in a machine in the network. Ping to that machine is <1ms.

I also have Maxwell 3 on a laptop (Mac OS X) where the license server is running locally. I don't have the 20 sec. delay there in Maya.
