Dear Artists,

i'm a beginner so maybe its a stupid question.. ;-)

I have four walls and a have material which paints the walls with a nice texture. Fine.
But now I would like to add some imperfections like dirt around a light switch, scratches close to the backrest of a chair and so on.

I wonder what the right/best way it would be to do so? I could modify the texture maps but then I will problems to syncronize the dirty marks around the light switch with the light switch itself.

Is it possible to create an object which shows just the dirt marks but is otherwise invisible?

Kind regards

If I understood correctly, you could add a second UV set to the objects and a new layer to the Maxwell material with a map that uses this second UV set. You can then add a layer mask also to this Layer to only make it show the dirt parts. The layer mask should also use this second UV set.

I think that this doesn't work. Think about a wall 10m wide and 3m high. The material creates a tile '1m x 1m' and the render repeats that pattern 30 times. with a simple dirt layer I would have 30 repeating dirt parts.

But the 2nd UV approach works like a charm. You (I) have to create a 2nd material and can then apply that material als a planar UV set. Via the UV settings can tell Maxwell the exact place and the exact scaling for my dirt. So Mihai was right. :)
