I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but to get your old 3ds Max Maxwell scenes compatible with the new Maxwell, make sure you follow these steps:

1: Double-check if your 3ds Max units correspond to your Maxwell System scale setting.
2: Switch off "Launch render after saving MXS".
3: Render your scene, effectively turning it into an MXS scene file.
4: Start up Maxwell Studio and load your MXS scene file.
5: Activate the material editor and select your emitter materials. You will find that they have a Kelvin color temperature. Switch it to Scale and it will respect your entered Watt amounts again, although you will probably have to adjust the emitter's color and/or camera settings anyway to achieve the right light color and brightness again.
6: Last but not least: SAVE your scene before rendering or it will look like a buggy, washed-out, overbright black and white render!

Cheers,

Metin

Well, the BETA was finnaly released, in december, months after the full version was PROMISED. The beta testers must have known about these problems, but never hinted anything was wrong, i guess becasue of a nondisclosure agreement. This seems it will take anoher 6+ months development cycle to get it to Release candidate.
The materials offered SOUND incredible, don't they? havent been able to render anything, the NEXTLIMIT is loading a polygon and texture, hmm what happend to advancement.
sorry for the rant, but i'm atleast glad we CAN START FIXING BUGS AS WERE NOW BETATESTERS

Something else: don't get impatient waiting for the 3D view to switch between view types and decide to try and pick another one before the previous one has loaded--you'll crash

i wrote a setup script that will do this for you guys....

but just to remove any lialbity from me.... i am not resonpsile for anything that happens to ur puter... create a system restore point before using if u are worried

if anyone has any problems with this fix, let me know ASAP at email clinton.collins@gmail.com or pmsg here, or aol im: EMberOfEden
Just one thing that might go wrong (depending on how you coded this). On my machine it is not c:\Program Files\ but C:\Programmer\ so the start of the path is a little diffent (at least on a PC with Danish settings, but I guess it could be similar differnces in other countries). This is defined in some internal variable in Windows I think.

i fixed it... it is set now to use the path that windows has set for program files, whatever it may be

About the materials weightmap, don't try to change it if you only have 1 basic material. MS freezes.

After a couple of days of amazing confusion on RC I decided to have a computer with the old beta, and here I can WORK...and a computer with the new RC.. for "fun"...it seams to have to do with two copletely differnt software. :(

one thing that was maybe already said.... how do you focus your camera.... is "from" the place where your cam is standing, and "to" the focussed place...?

I tried importing a scene (exported with the new plugin) from Max, but it made Studio crash. I replaced all materials in Max with a default diffuse Maxwell material and the mxs imported fine into Studio.

So if you have crashes while importing an mxs scene, even if it's exported with the new plugin, try replacing the materials. It seems some old materials like textured plastics are not imported properly into Studio and it makes it crash.

I recently got a black screen when rendering. I went back into studio and changed the units of my emitter from W to W/m^2, saved, started the render again and no more black screen. Seems to be a problem of scale/units

yes same for me... I still don't get that emitter thing right... I mean when choosing Kelvin, the numbers don't make difference... is that right..?

I have a feeling that the Kelvin option is another one of the disabled functions in this "RC"

Regarding scene scale, as I understood it, and andronikos posted before a small tutorial, you have to set the export options in your 3D software plugin to 1, meaning 1m = 1 Maxwell unit, since the default scene scale in Studio is 1 (and changing it doesn't seem to do anything).

So you will have to rescale your objects in your app before running the export plugin.

True, but I use Maya and Rhino…it'd be nice if there was an import file dialog that maybe showed MXStudio units (and allowed you to change them) and import file units, maybe it also would allow you to ignore certain objects or layers…

all the MXSs i exported from max had 0,01=100 max units are equal to 1 meter in maxwell as scale conversion, and they all worked just fine. don't know how it works with other plugins though.
