Sure, I hope it is useful in some way. I find this set-up very versatile for all catalogue image needs - situational images with a few accessories and on-white images clients also always need.

played with it a bit after making some adjustments so it will open on my system....
however since many of my scenes are with opened windows that show the porch, having the sun so close makes the shadow too distorted in the perspective, so I'm not sure if it's a usable solution.
after 16 hours of render, I got so SL 14 with noise at 3000X1500.

But, I think, the further it is, the noisier the image will be, right?
No. Distance shouldn't matter, if its being scaled up in proportion.
I think it does matter because your scene keeps the same size. As the source of light gets further, there is a smaller amount of angles with which the rays can find the light source.

I'll try to make a sketch to show it.

Edit: Here it is! I proudly present, my crappy sketch!

Yes, my sun is right on top; the rays in this scene have to go nearly perpendicular to the ground or won't hit the light source; any other angle will fail to reach it.

Maybe I'm wrong cause I'm making it all up in my mind.

In my case, which is your approach, I have two suns - a small and close one (hard shadows) and a large and far one (soft shadows). The rendering time/SL in my case is identical.

My sun is bigger than yours : )

Size doesn't matter, so they say : D
