select the wireframe view at your drop down shadding menu and click once at the 3d viewport...

not too practical - but for now it works

I think you only have to click in the viewport, then it goes back to the previous mode.

I'm getting no crashes if I use the render icon, if I choose Render from the dropdown it crashes everytime.

big K: Yes, I placed the license file as suggested last night. Have managed a preview of Mvertas' scene in the viewport and once last night using Ctr+P ( no Ctr+P works this morning though!).

Seems like MaxwellRC is doing different things for different people - maybe due to the poorly implemented system of installation?

I think I will concede defeat with doing an actual render. The working viewport render will allow me to have a look at the materials a little closer though.

Regent: I get occasional crashes when left clicking in the viewport to stop a viewport render.

RC is more unstable than me!

oneshot: I recognise the English version of that screen! As you mention, doing the variable thing isn't working for everyone. Some can do a preview, others can't. Some can render, others can't...

Becco, the environment variable thing is something very simple, it's just so Studio knows where the mxcl (the actual renderer) is located in the computer. So, if the mxcl opens after you press the render button, but then crashes, the crash has nothing to do with the enviroment variables.

It can be something else in oneshot's situation, perhaps the geometry, or materials. Oneshot, have you tried with the scenes available for download?

mihai, did you get transmittance to work. I'm trying to make a light inside an object, and having light comming out, but it doesn't seem to work :?

Transmittance isn't transparency.

Transmittance is the color of the transparency, and Attenuation is more like transparency. Make sure you set your Attenuation up to get transparent objects. The attenuation settings will depend on the size of your object.

daros and Oneshot, are you using the dropdown menu Render option, in the viewports? If I do that then it crashes every time, but if I press the render button it doesn't crash. Although I don't know what I changed in a material and now I get a "render failed" message from mxcl.
