Yesss - they are suckers. But the performance / watt is ok if you see what's coming out
Never had a combination of CPU & mainboard that was as rock stable as these Opteron + Supermicro setups are. You can't do anything in the Bios - it is just multiplier OC on the OS with TurionPowerControl. If you are rendering a Maxwell scene for one hour and it is stable it will run everything under load for weeks...
If somebody is interested in these setups he has to look for 61xx CPUs (Maranello - Platform). These have a way better per Core performance than its successors "Interlagos" / "Abu Dhabi"
The "Interlagos" 62xx / "Abu Dhabi" 63xx Opterons have very long pipelines - so they overclock very well (like Pentium IV
) and the per core performance as well is not so good.
Each of these CPUs have the G34 socket and every appropriate SM - Mainboard can handle each CPU generation.
