Hi Nils, you can mail me for what submission I like, find my address at www.colourfulcity.com

Anyhow I am (was) at the first page on the submission list somewhere in the middle.

I got to see some of the submissions, some good, some very bad. I liked 0-Z, surely not mine because I sort of stayed within the competition bouderies and 0-Z absolutely didn't. Also saw many that had no clue of what was said at the seminar. Things that where said about the park, the annexes, the fourth wing and the idea of a new landmark where by some completely ingnored and what was more funny that the ones I downloaded for some did not even take the subway tunnel into consideration for the extension undergrand. I suppose some really to spend time designing but hate to read. Still, the site is down and I suppose will stay that way for a while. Better to just expose thumbnails and limit all submission to small jpg's 800x600 pixels.
But its nice to see the great succes for the organisers. I am sure they will find a good design, I estimate about 50 will be worth seriously looking into, the rest will be put aside in a more rational fashion as nonesense and not in accordence with the program and site bouderies.

down the rabit hole really does look lovely, great sketches, no need for maxwell there.

seeing many of the submissions now does make me wonder why people actually send in there designs. As well as the one you linked us too as many others have completely forgotten about the subway tunnel. So funny, the inspection team will just put those plans aside. I think there must be at least a couple of hundred plans waisted on this issue. In the Gwangju competition there was also a subway tunnel that caused so many to be disqualified. The subway tunnel need a good bit of room around it ....lol.

I am getting a bit depressed by looking at all this effort and promise myself not to do this again but it was a great maxwell training class. As soon as the competition has ended I will link this thread to my maxwell work in the competition.

I am getting more and more interested in Modo lately and might be tempted into buying. Wondering if there is a maxwell export option for modo models. The render engine of modo seems to be rather good as well and fast.

indeed O-Z is pretty interesting..bit too much of Liebeskind imitation, but cool otherwise... seen like 200 projects so far and its in my top ten :).. still looking for yours ;) but been dl them randomly so might take a long time!

ok, i won't be opening all I letters to see. during the day the site is too slow anyhow.

for what I have seen 90% of the submissions is none sense. Most are way too small to give the organiser for what he is looking for, a world class entrance, a masterpiece and the same class and grandeur Seattle, Aberdeen and Copenhagen shows these days. They need to attract 7000-8000 visitors a day to a part of town that is no longer in fashion, a superior landmark is what they are after, at least so they mentioned at the seminar with glowing faces. Also they stated at the seminar that the excisting Asplund was to dark and not outgoing enough and so they will never build an undergrand or into the park kind of building, they want to have a view over stockholm as the neighbor now has, also they want to put something in front of the commercial building they seem to hate as an eysore. Ok, its really interesting to see all this but haven't seen any true or impressive renderings or plans. Most are variations on glass boxes extending from asplund into the annexes. I had imagined much more creativity, of course I have seen only a dozen plans. Maybe you can link me to something amazing and intelligent.

about modo, I just want to be free so model anything I like and I think modo has some tools for modeling that are real timesavers. I used wings 3D a few months ago for modeling a skydome, very simple really, just had to model the windowframes and it took me about 5 minutes in Wings3D that otherwise would have cost me hours in SU.

Its not at all a bad idea to have a few modellers aside SU. I usually work in Vectorworks as well to model things I find harder to do in SU especially staircases and so on. Modo is also great in certain kind of modeling techniques where you want to extrude or bevel a lot of different faces at once or where you start from a simple cube like form and change it quickly into a more rounded shape with rounded holes or in case you want to model a rail that is not just the ordinary. Also Modo seems an excelent render at great speed. Maxwell will be in my rendering vocabulair for lenghty future I hope and I am happy I invested my time in it. I have really moved up in my circle of clients and colloeagues.

I see many competitors not comforatble with digital techniques. Does not mean the plans are bad but still you wonder how they would manage to win and build. I also wondered why they asked for pdf files. jpg's would have been much easier to handle and they could have provided for a max. resolution. Then all submission would have been under 300K.

also i will be interested in how they deal with plans that are beyond the building envelope. I found most competitions have gone very strict in that. The program and building envelope are nowadays a result of costly and intens consultancy and ingeneering studies and rapports. So to just ingnore those will almost never result in a winning plan. In the past this was much easier since the programs where not as much fixed as they are in these times.

the site was too slow to have a look at your suspected winning submissions. will later tonight.

I just bought modo, could no longer bear the video tutorials and new book without my own copy. am very interested if I can get maxwell and su combined with modo using dataexchange formats modo supports.

keep us informed on how you mix the use of modo with your MR and Su... i'm assuming you'll keep SU as the main place, and modo will be the extra stuff within SU?

i am expecting to keep using SU as the main modeler for 90% of the work, use Modo for the extra freedom in modeling and rendering and keep maxwell going for the final touch and super high quality renderings for details and lighting studies.

I wonder what my learning curve will be like with Modo. Maybe after Maxwell all will look simple. Actually Maxwell does feel to be very simple once you get to know it. I feel very much in control with maxwell at the moment and I think the plugin works very well. I have spoiled my clients I am afraid......

Sure once I have things to show I will post them here as well. Such a pity my most impressive work is for government office interiors and I am totally forbidden to put anything on the web.

r-fourtheen has the entrance the organisers where hoping for. The buildingitself i don't care for so much. Strangely enough your suspected winners did not speak to me at all.

the winning submissions will:
-have a world class entrance pointed at Odenplan
-unite the Asplund builing and the new extension in one total building or library experience, not something you can overcome with a tiny bridge or underground pathway
-be very inviting to new and young public
-be totally invisible for people like me who are into Maxwell ....lol

I like "down the rabbit hill" most but I don't think it will win. I think its too introvert. Some submissions frighten me like "respect, strength and humility".

haven't been down to the R letter submissions yet lol still in the P's!
I'll give a look at the one you mention!
I also agree about what specs you talk about... i think my project fullfills some of it ;) (but might lack of fun for kids ( not a mickey mouse shape ;))
I also agree about the maxwell point of view! hehe

r-fourteen: the best of its kind so far ( triangular occupation of the end of the site..)
respect-strengh etc.. > agreed totally scary like a mausoleum...brrr

some entries are really strange > why would someone render when he knows the project will be bounced off with a first 5 second glance..so much work spent for nothing... another thing is make me wonder > why did so many entries detailed their project so much, like the project is going to be built tomorrow ( almost construction plans)...such a loss of time there too..

the gwangju competition was won by the most detailled plan without much rendering or architectural presentation. For a plan many times larger than the Asplund cometition the winner had even all doors turning in the right direction, and all the required rooms and spaces in perfect layout and spacial order.

ok seen about 1015 projects...
About 4-5 were rendered with Maxwell only...

I'd say about 15 projects are leading ( to my opinion) because of intelligence of answer associated with quality of rendering. Most are very different typologies: some in the triangular occupation of the space ( leaving a big public place ) some making nice zigzag ramps up to the hill ( not sure building there was a good idea thu ). Some renders are soo poor in quality of rendering, it makes me wonder why to answer at all... Some other projects are soo inspired by masterpieces ( koolhas, fuksas and others ) that its too obvious at first glance..
I'm also intrigued by the fact that few international size companies seem to have rendered... ( you can see that through the precision of the project, as well as mixture of render quality, and masterisation of architecture planning too).
Pretty curious anyway to see the results!
Have anyone been to the exhibition there in stockholm?
