It was not my intension to say Jotero is not right. I belive, he is one of the "old" masters here.
I think, rough clay could be looks like pure diffuse and Jotero try to get a material like used gypsum. Could be interesting test to render two objects with diffuse and plastic roughness 1.
In renderman exist an extra rough material function for shader like clay after the first low temperature fire. An other example of roughsurfaces is the mood. The moon looks like disk, because the moon is extrem rough (seen from the earth). In the past I have used a rough surface shader for a felt surface.
