Actually 15000€
You realize you could have bought 10 X2 machines for that money? They would have been at least 7x times faster than your computer. You would be smiling a bit more with a renderfarm like that.....Plus in two years your 15000 investment won't be worth 1/4...What is this silly company you work for? I got some stuff to sell them

Mihai: you are so funny.

But seriously. It's not for 3D work. It's build up for 2K film editing.
This is the first time when i'm able to work with 2K footage in realtime.
Those render slaves are not as expensive, but will help me in 3D and
film compositing work.

Hmm... still smiling

Then those processors are even more a waste of money. It's the hd capacity and speed that matters in that case.

.......deep in my heart, I know I'm funny.

"Then those processors are even more a waste of money. It's the hd capacity and speed that matters in that case."

Well i don't think so. I'm working with Fusion 5 and i need a lot of rendering
power and hd capacity. With 4x500 GB Sataraid i can gain enough hd speed.
With those processors and rendernodes working together i don't have problems with rendering times anymore.

So what is the problem? At this price, this is the only way to do it.

...and actually i don't care too much. I just have freeking fast machines
and i'm happy with them.

As compared to:
Here is my test with Pentium IV 3.2Ghz, Extreme Edition 2MB cache
Code:
[1h 54m 7s] of [16h 39m 0s] , current sampling level : 15.04

Maxwell Render 1.2.2a
----
This would mean that the dual Opteron 2,2 Ghz is 3,5 times as fast as the P4 3,2 EE. This is amazing as no other 3d program I know reaches that speed improvement between these two setups. If both of you are sure and the 1.0 version confirms it than the processor choice is obvious and NL has to be complimented on their threads implementation.

Max3D: 2x dualcore opteron is that fast. It's actually four physical procs.
So i think that one dualcore Amd could be only 2 times faster than P4 3,2 EE.
But i think amd has better performance with M~R than intel.

I also have three new Hp xw4300 workstations. Intel Pentium D 840 3,20 GHz,
Dualcore. In my rendering tests they are 3x slower than my amd. Tested with 3DMax adn Mental Ray.
So there really is difference.

Thats amazing Larsson. Would you be willing to run a 3ds max render benchmark on these machines? I wrote one two years ago which is still popular with reviewers. It test typical scanline, raytracing and radiosity scenes within max. It's fully automated so it will take you just a few minutes of setup time.
I can mail you the package. An explanation and some older results are to be found on http://www.studiopc.com/benchmarking3dsmax/index.html. Very recent results are f.i. posted on http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=672&pid=2575.

Thanks in advance.
