You could try to use a very low burn like 0 ... 0.1 and a strong gamma. In Low burn mode Maxwell works like a human eye or a traditional analog film camera. So you can keep the brightest parts of the image. For example I have used this method in my museum rendering.I agree the wine glasses are fractionally blown out - but this is a result of scene exposure which i am happy with. As in photography, you win some and lose some i suppose
