Beautiful, I like the contrast and subtle dof - reminds me of my darkroom days

Not perfect, but nice. I like this high contrast b&w photostyle in the backlight. I think, you could make the image more concentrated. Here a quick try per cutout, also not perfect.
I would try to show the wine glasses better. Now, the glass form is burned out and not good visible, the wine is the most visible.

Nice work! I like the composition.

Micha, you are more concerned with objects than with space. ;)

also, .......this is the type of image where the Maxwell grain(which i like about 65% of the time) is an asset---- although adding grain in PS is pretty easy.

........i hear the sound of 2 pennies dropping on the ground. :)

Although i tried some tighter angles on the scene, i preferred the wider version as it distanced the viewer from the subject while also allowing them a sense of 'space' (thanks Fran:)
Ah, I understand. 'Space' - I will give it more attention.
I agree the wine glasses are fractionally blown out - but this is a result of scene exposure which i am happy with. As in photography, you win some and lose some i suppose :)
..
You could try to use a very low burn like 0 ... 0.1 and a strong gamma. In Low burn mode Maxwell works like a human eye or a traditional analog film camera. So you can keep the brightest parts of the image. For example I have used this method in my museum rendering.
