Dex,

Try this. create a plastic material and apply it to a single part, render it and look at the scene tab in the maxwell app window. You can see how many materials are in the scene, you will always see a diffuse one, which is created always and it is assigned to the entities that do not have a maxwell material applyed. If you can see any plastic material in this tab means that the material is created fine. Check if the environment settings (and also the layers..etc ) allow you to see it properly. Also check if the plastic is properly assigned to the body.

Cheers,

Juan

The material is assigned in the right way - if I change the colour I see the change in the rendering. I only work with one light emitter which also works as a reflection plane.
I check the sky settings each time to make sure it is switched off since it switches back a lot when I go out of the rendering tab.....really annyoing...but this is another thing....

thanx for any help !

using SW 2006 SP 0 here

dex,

I can not see any problem here. My plastics reflect fine the rest of the objects of the scene. remember that you need to fix a higher render time to see reflections, .

Sorry if this is too obvious, but, have you checked that the plastic material is properly created, perhaps there is a strange bug that creates just a diffuse

does not your save the value of the checkbox? does it change all the time? Are you working with the latest version? Can you check if you are loading an old version of the plugin? Your bugs seems old.
Check the links here:

Please tell me if you fix it.
Cheers,

Dex,

Definitely I have not seen this issue. Here you can see a pic. The bodywork is a plastic with difuse rgb (255,0,0) and plastic RGb (255,0,0) too. 40 minutes in a pc with more renders at the same time and many apps opened.
You can see the reflection of the ground and walls in the plastic.
I think you have an old version installed, have you tested the scene data tab?

Best Regards,

Juan

P.S. Excuse the quality of the pic and the very bizarre material assignment, I Sorry, I promise nicer images soon, if I have some time...

hmmm....looks like I installed an old version, thanks for the link juan.

If I am not wrong the official password protected download site still has the old solidworks plugin inside.

Looks great the interface, I really like it ! (much better implemented than the maya one) All other problems have gone away - jipieh !
Just this plastic issue is still there ??? I am using the just published SolidWorks 2006 SP0, this is the most actual version available....are you also working with that one ?

thanx

Hi dex..
You were true, in the official link the version WAS old. We had a problem in our server and I had to place the plugin in other folder. I have fix it just now, because I have update the plugin again :) See the new topic for details.

Juan

solved !!!

my fault, since the specular colour is black as default, the plastic renders as diffuse material, if I raise the color to white it tints to pure reflective chome.

It would be helpful to have the colour at 40% as default, so a plastic will render.

I understand - I think.

When setting a plastic colour , set a 'specular RGB colour' that is just a little lighter than the 'set RGB' colour.

Dex - What URough and VRough Absoption Scattering settings do you use for your plastics?

Do you know what the 'Specular' check box does that is in of Plastic Material Manager ((bottom left side)

I have built a scene with a reflection panel in it, to get reflections on my part. In last weeks release I set it up using a custom SW texture and then using a Maxwell difuse material with the Diffuse Check box ticked, and in latest 8th Aug release it does not work - has anyone else ......

Aargh it a SW problem - the thing works in a part file and the picture(texture) appears but it is missing from the sw assembly file !! AArrgg  Solidworks again has broken !!

oops - I've got it to work now .

Juan I think your new feature for changing SW material colour using to match the Maxwell colour can have unexpected consequances. It by mistake clicked a face with my picture and it went grey and I had to go to the SW Assembly and reset the Texture picture.

I understand why you have put in this feature, so that people can quickly see at a glance what maxwell material are hwhere in the model, but I am not at all sure this is the best way to go about it. many of us use the SW colours for other things like supplier codes etc.
Pehaps an alternative is something similar to the 'Show material Automatically' but in the reverse direction. Click on the material name in the list and the Part(s) automatically highlight in the SW highlight colour.
