yeah, sorry, I said the wrong thing...it IS in the .mxi, but if I try to save the alpha out of the .mxi, nothing happens, even though it says it saved correctly. I can save the image, just not the alpha. Also, when this does happen, the path where the output image is routed to by default does not update. Neither the image or the alpha update.

I've been trying to find a pattern that causes this problem, but so far it seems very random when it happens.

right now the output path is C:\Users\Justin Goode\TestRender.tga when I go there the last time the image has been updated is a few hrs prior, even though I've made plenty of renders since. The image at the location should update every time I render, yeah? it seems to happen the most when I don't have it set to embed the alpha.

Does Maxwell not like the path name having a space in it? Some programs seem to have random issues with that every now and again. I generally don't ever use spaces in paths, this one just has a space because it was created by default using my user name.

I do...but when I have that option checked, it usually embeds it into the image correctly. I generally like to have them saved separately though so the only time I use that option is when the non embedded is not working.

one more piece of the puzzle...if I render out an alpha only and no diffuse, I can save it. it's really only when I render both at the same time, not embedded.

Were you doing some heavy cpu and ram usage before that happened? I can't verify 100% yet but I feel like it starts to happen after I've done some heavy heavy computing. Like, I'll go over the amount of ram I have and I'm rendering a large etc etc. That could be my imagination, I've been trying to keep an eye out to see if that's linked.

i've recently considered a new career which doesn't involve computers, or visually inclined clientèle...
seems this would solve your problems too
