I worked it out :D Even though the Simulens checkboxes are ALL SWITCHED OFF, it's still rendering with the unchecked default values. If I check the boxes, reduce the values back to 0, the render goes back to normal.
For some unknown reason it's now impossible for me to replicate the image quality using V2. I've been using MWR since the early alpha versions and have never had problems like this.

Basically the contrast of the render is very, very low using the same settings as per version 1.7. If I adjust the various sliders to increase the contrast (monitor gamma etc) then the contrast is far too high and the image very dark in the shadows. It just doesn't seem possible to match what I'm used to. Am I missing something ?

I'll post an image later when I have two directly comparable renders.

I'm using V2.0 on OS 10.6.1 with C4D 11.0

try multiplying the emitter values in the materials untill you come to a proper result.

I don't have any emitters in the materials. I'm using a simple HDRi for lighting that's worked perfectly for the last 2-3 years.

Here's what the renders used to look like:

Hi Matt, have you changed your colour space to ProPhoto for example? - the wider gamuts appear to reduce the punch considerably in the renderer - you will have to save the output in a format that holds ICC profiles such as tif (tga does not) if you want to use your render in a colour managed workflow.

Try sRGB or Adobe RGB for better saturation in the renderer.

That's what I initially thought as well so I've tried sRGG, ProPhoto, Adobe98 etc and the results do not improve.

Those settings are definitely turned off. Believe me, I've checked every single setting and everything seems normal. If however I render the standard materials scene it seems OK. But then that's not being exported via the C4D plug-in.

One other issue is "Low Priority" is ALWAYS ON.

1. I thought for some reason maybe some of the old non-functioning mxm tags were causing the problem.

2. No, they all render with this very weird low contrast effect.

Yes, this scene is using the physical sky as I thought the HDR might be a problem but it's not. Whether I use HDR, PS or SD the results are still the same.
