Asmithey: Nice progress. The flags look a little stiff though - were they hand modelled or did you use a cloth sym?

Thanks for the feed back and the cool shades....

Yeah, I modeled the flags by hand, nubz object. I had a much softer version but the client said he wanted no ripples on the Oklahoma logo, the blue flag. So I had to straighten it out and put less waves in it. So I had to then make the USA flag similar. I agree...too stiff indeed.

Thanks for the feedback...

Oh..and I only wish I had a cloth system to use with my modeling app.....

Thanks Tea_Bag....

They are almost done. I put some displacement in the flags to give them more detail. Thanks for pointing the flat looking flags out Becco_UK!!! I will be getting the fire truck models tomorrow. Once I create Maxwell materials for the trucks, they are off to the render farm......

Aaron

Here is a preview of the night shot. The apparatus bays will be filled with ladder trucks, pumper trucks, ambulance etc....

It will be also rendered with multi-light....

Here is a 95% completed view. Just a few more grasses on the right next to the building and try to light up the red lights on top of the fire trucks. It should be complete. This was a pain in the A#%!!!!

So much work was needed to be done on the fire trucks to make them Maxwell ready.

I get the "black dots of death" when I use sky dome with sun enabled. This started occurring when the fire truck were introduced. I was rendering just fine with sun enabled before the fire trucks came into the picture. I removed the trucks and cut and pasted the model into a new window but it still would render the black dots. And there are no SSS materials. Sometime if I click on an object my app. just closes. Has anyone experienced this....I use Form-Z but maybe this has occurred with other modeling programs as well. My file gets corrupted. Usually when it is heavily loaded with geometry. I try to type things into dialogue boxes and the text disappears. Or for instance, as an example, I move the slider or type in a number for sky dome intensity and rubber bands to 0. It is very frustrating. I never experience this on simple files. Only on big projects with lots of geometry. Anyway, I always seem to muddle through however frustrating it becomes. I still like the outcome though.

Also, the red lights on top of the fire trucks are actually baked on textures. I tried to create an MXI emitter for the texture for the red lights using the baked on texture map. After I apply the MXI emitter to the model, it always crashes Maxwell Render when I send the file to render. So I am not sure what I am ding wrong there. I know it is vauge but can anyone give me any insight as to perhaps why when I use the mxi emitter I get the crash?

Heres the update.....

hey
the image looks really great! It was worth the effort :) but I can understand your frustration about the software stuff. It's hard enough to make a good image with so many details and it takes a lot of time. The worst thing to happen is loosing even more time to software problems. But sadly I'm a bit used to it with maxwell ...

Thanks Kami...

Yeah, 4 gigs won't be enough. I use render rocket for my final renderings. The have 8 gigs of ram on each machine. I hope that is even enough.

I actually have 8 gigs of ram sitting on my desk. I just can get it to work. I have tried all major brands that are on the intel compatibilty list for my board. The bios shows I have 8 gigs installed but it won't boot up. So, I don't know what the issue is. Nobody seems to know.

Hi Aaron,

great mood in the last two images!.. i really like the lighting and the nature.
personally, i think the second last image (before the trucks came) has a deeper, more realistic sky, at least thats what i would imagine an arizona sundown.. i can almost hear the cicadas.. :D

about the ram...
have you tried to up the voltage slightly..(0.1 steps!) i had problems with 8 gigs too in one machine, because the default voltage was not getting 8 gigs stable.

cheers,
Daniel

Thanks Tea_Bag :)

Brian and Daniel,

Actually it was my motherboard. It had bad ram and pci bus. They sent me a new s5000xvn and now it works as expected.

I like the dark sky too. that is how I initially wanted it. The client wanted the building to pop more. So we went with more twilight around the building. And yes, this project is, I mean will be built, in Oklahoma. You can see the finals in the Gallery.

Thanks,

Aaron
