Maxwell is no toy Max ...
I have to agree with ivox3 Max. On the other hand do a job search, how many job postings would find requiring Maxwell Or Fry skills...?
If Visualization industry is where you wanna be for sure Vray or Mantal ray is a must. and that will not change even if Maxwell gets as fast. (big companies don't change their workflows over night, just because Maxwell or Fry is "Physically Correct") IMO.
You have to make a distinction when you say visualization industry. When I hear that, ..I think primarily of the arch.vis. people, ... I think of a job listing for visualization that has requirements. I think of some architecture office wanting to hire a render grunt (apologies/sympathies to all render grunts out there..lol) --and we know what they typically use. Of course, this term 'vis industry' somewhat neglects all the product/jewlery people who usually do their own renders with their engine of choice. As we know, .. those folks use a renderer more like a weapon or tool than some requirement by some employer/management. Both fields are probably equal in size/scope, ..but arch.vis definitely gets more of the attention because it can be quantified. So because half of the field is basically eliminated and the other half is set in their ways, ...that more or less explains why you would rarely see a listing requiring something like Maxwell. But I'm also certain it's just a matter of time before we do start seeing 'official' requests for MW as a skillset in the arch.vis field.
There's also the ad/marketing/commercial graphics arena where MW gets used a lot, ..but again, that wouldn't necessarily mean you would start seeing job listings with MW as requirement. MW would just be something someone just brings to the table as an individual skillset. And they may or may not even disclose it's usage to clients.
So it's just a process - an education. As more and more people (art directors/marketing dept's, different industries etc..) become aware of MW, it just gets entered into the fray of options to visualize whatever it is that someone wants to visualize.
This is a big topic ......sigh.
