For noise comparison scenes, we were careful not to show other improvements in combination because that would be confusing. Because v2 had incredible improvements in many areas for a long time and we are eager to show you each of them separately in the best way, rather than creating more question marks. This way you can barely see where does each improvement come from. Otherwise, one can think X scene was faster because Y thing has been improved, so it's not a speed improvement. As, this is not the case we wanted to show it off clearly first. :) I think, five different scenes with different scenarios were quite expressive and demonstrative about the improvement in rendertimes. You see 2x to 6x and sometimes even more in this demonstration. Honestly, I still can't believe it but that's true... It's just fast I can say. :) Be happy and meanwhile wait for more announcements. ;)

Nicole,

I think it's time to unveil a new feature ( or two :D )

Tom,

Would previously made materials (1.x) work seamless with V2?
how about SL?
would SL 1.0 in (maxwell 1.7) be the same as SL 1.0 in V2??

I wonder if in Maxwell's version 2, it will be the long-awaited and announced RS2 or just a big big optimization of the RS1...

Tom maybe a little precision about that?

Sure! Although, you can only have them better if you call this a difference. :)

SL is not a criteria because it's not parallel in v1 and v2. So, we compare using absolute render time, which is precisely the most correct way.

We don't have that core names, anymore. So, V2.0 has its own brandnew core which is not improved or renewed of something from the past. If you wonder, we don't give a public code name to it and its features are secret until every single announcement and until the release.

Let me guess: "Maxwell Render 2.0 - partially revealed" every week for 8-10 weeks
I'm looking forward to this! :-)

Very promising feedback, Tom!
And i just took a deeper look at the RAV4 pic....and saw the interiors through glass...CLEAN! Light through dielectrics seems to have gained even more than 6x :D :D :D

Haha... you guys crack me up.

Good looking out there tom, I was also interested in alot of questions you answered and I feel like its my birthday and xmas together at the moment.

I mean not only will I have to wait for the next luxology unveiling but the 2nd maxwell one!!!
This is so exciting.

Oh and Tom,... could you speed up your programmers by 2x - 6x times as well?

Kidding,...
I think you guys are doing great work and I'm already 300% sure the company I work for will buy this update.
This speed upgrade alone will convince the boss 8)

thanks for the explanations, tom

I'm very glad about the speed improvements.
I have to believe you, that images in 2.0 are more real if you say, those roughness-mistakes have been improved. But if I compare the two clay renderings, the 1.7 one seems to have much more "depth" and a better differentiation in lighting gradients. Without knowing, what exactly has changed, I can only hope that the "old image style" can still be acheived.

cheers,
kami

Guys -

As Tom mentioned, it was actually challenging for us to find images which demonstrated the speed improvements without giving too much else away :)

One thing I can absolutely put your mind to ease about, though, is that there are no ways in which 1.x is superior to 2.0 in terms of accuracy. You will use 2.0 and you will never look back. Even having heard that, you will be as surprised at how true that statement is, as I was initially. Just stay tuned; the best is yet to come!

I wasnt going to say anything but what the ...

I think the clay kitchen looks waaay better in 2.0.Just look at the contrasts in the chairs and the previously blown out parts on the floor and table.

If I had to sum it up the 2.0 renders look

a) more contrasty
b) more acurate
c) calmer, less how should I phrase this... it doesnt look like something that emerged from dots (think camera obscura in some way)
d) more vivid and three-dimensional.
