Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

For users who uses Maxwell Studio, and have to export 3d files from other softwares (not included in the current Maxwell pluggin list) the most dangerous part of the possible workflow is the lack of flexibility.

It is not difficult to create a model, exporting it to any 3d formats and import it into Maxwell Studio to assign materials and other settings to generate a great image.

Unfortunately this lineal workflow is not possible most of the time during production work, for many reasons. One of them is that when many people is involved in a project, there will be many points of view, and many opinions, that can modify the original conditions, by updating and corecting the model.

Here we have the most dangerous part. A safe workflow that could be flexible enough to update just what is needed without losing the rest of the work is the most valuable thing. In architectural rendering models can be very complex, and the possibility to change just what is needed can be the diference between a great bussines, and a big loss.

Currently Maxwell Studio have certain features that fills that gap, for instance the possibility to update geometry without loosing the materials and mapping properties already assigned. The new exporting option to obj, goes in the same direction. Anyway these are not enough in case of a great scale job, that I have mentioned.

An external referenced MXS file will be a safe way to do drastic changes at the time you keep all that was not changed intact, saving working time.

If a complex job is divided into separated referenced files, the human error risk is minimized as well as the possibilities of fixing a mistake are multiplied, not to mention that many artists could work together one on each referenced files.

The mother file which calls all the other referenced files, and contains all the rendering settings, cameras etc, will be protected during geometry updating, since they will be both in diferent MXS files, minimizing accidents possibilities.

Ernesto, not the first time this is asked for :-)
It definitley would help.
I think I remember NL saying they understood the need for this.

sorry stonelli
I come to the forum from time to time, and when I try a new Maxwell version I just write what it looks to me, and perhaps I forget or do not know that it was mentioned before.

No problem Erensto. Hopefully NL is listening.
The important thing of this, in m y mind, would be some method to ensure material permanence.
From MS the layers become groups, so if a material assignment could be remembered at the group level, then one could update references and not have to re-apply materials.

I strongly urge the idea of reference MXS!!! I've been working in the architecture industry for some time now and using maxwell as the only visualization tool. As most of the CAD packages are not directly supported by maxwell by means of a seamlessly integrated plugin. There is a huge mount of time and pressure pays into going back and forth to the CAD (microstation in my case) and the MX studio while lots of updates of the geometries, position, materials and cameras happens. almost every time i have to redo the whole scene. By introducing the concept of referencing mxs, which like stoneli suggested would embed all the infomation that is included in the maxwell studio (geometry, rednering setting, camera setting, materials, position..)and dynamically changes according to the external program which generates it. I think it will be a huge plus in the architectural and design industry since the most of work we do is updating and changing the design!

Maybe, maybe not.
I have been doing a lot of testing for usability but not a whole lot of real rendering..
Ciao

So, is this a known issue?

Thanks a lot for your response, I will update and […]

did you tried luxCore?
