I think what jeffg is saying is that simple numbers/statistics do not mean anything out of context. Take the 2.3 million Americans incarcerated "fact" that the artist obviously is angry about. What's his point? Is he saying that there are too many people incarcerated? If so, what does he base that fact on? I used to work in law enforcement, and I can tell you for a "fact" that it is extremely hard to get somebody convicted of anything, and I can't tell you how many violent criminals I've seen go free due to the criminal justice system favoring the criminal. So when I look at that image, I say to myself, it should probably be 4 million incarcerated, but the other 1.7 million got away with their crimes.misterasset wrote:I'm seriously curious how these are seen as "politically biased." I mean, they're facts.
Not perhaps but for sure.jeffg wrote:A little politically biased in their choice of numbers perhaps?
Probably on the fact that the US incacerates people at higher rates than any other country in the world; 15 times higher than Japan for that matter.dilbert wrote:If so, what does he base that fact on?
Yes, and countries like China have a low incarceration rate (by percentage) due to the fact that their justice system is swift, and deadly, but are you going to argue that we should change to their justice system so that our "numbers" look better? Like I said, statistics mean nothing out of context of the situation.misterasset wrote: Probably on the fact that the US incacerates people at higher rates than any other country in the world; 15 times higher than Japan for that matter.
Whatever the reason I think we can all agree that we shouldn't have to have 2.3 million people in prison.
