Hey, I'm just as anxious as the next guy to get my hands on features that, while yes, they technically should have already been done.. but at this juncture, after now owning EIGHT times the maxwell I bought. AND have seen massive improvements in the website, the community, the PRODUCT.

I think that kind of demanding will get you only one thing. Heartburn.

We are, after all, talking about software. You are not really helping anyone, including yourself by treating it like your pet has been kidnapped and you are demanding the ransom note.

I can only hope that NL has some concrete reasons for leaving off the couple features we have been screaming for? (out of the many, many substantial core features they have streamlined or added) As a developer I know that sometimes clients scream at me for doing things in a way that baffles them; how do I then explain that there is a certain order of operations for programming. Usually my clients just... well... send me an email not unlike your last post.

Though I certainly understand your viewpoint, I think the way you are expressing yourself is... well at the very least, unprofessional.

for the sake of being constructive and professional please lets not poison the well? You can't have any impact on anything if everyone stops listening to you.

I was talking to NL, not to the users.
I see people here happy just with a sort-of-half-announcement, it's a nonsense.
I just put off the hand i keep in my mouth for a long, and i'm not the only one.
Be happy... and wait.

def4d,

I know you were talking to NL.

I have been waiting as long as you, and at one point I was just as angry, maybe more so. There were a LOT of things NL did back in 05/06 which really got our panties in a bunch.

HOWEVER, we can't keep acting like that.

1. useless flaming will get you banned.
2. NL HAS changed. Though some features are a sore point but NL giving me as much maxwell as I can handle makes up in my mind at least for various errors in public relations and development decisions they have made.
3. Your outnumbered. If a die-hard take no prisoners, tell it like it is guy like myself is willing to cut NL some slack... well... Your outnumbered 20:1
4. Your venom is getting in the way of you seeing the GOOD that maxwell can bring you. It's a stunning product (still with issues)... but a stunning product none-the-less.

There ARE a few major issues with Maxwell related to workflow and integrating it into anyone's production pipeline. I think these things will eventually be solved. Maxwell is still young. I agree that it really should still be 1.2 regardless of how much new has been added. The old V1 features should be in place before any more 'numbers' are added.

My voice and your voice will not change NL. Obviously you have decided that this situation is unacceptable to you. You do have that right. Just don't expect all of us to fall on our swords agreeing with you. Though you may be right in every respect, the manner in which you are attacking this problem simply makes us want to NOT LISTEN.

people skills. look it up.

It's a stunning product
Man, I had to came back to Scanline briefly to make some changes to a work made two years ago and that made me appreciate Maxwell much more. It is a stunning product indeed.

I wouldn't be so angry if Maxwell would only be a tool for me, it's more than that, it permits me to express myself. I can't stand the lack of communication anymore, and the choices made by NL, regardless the wishlist.
I didn't check all the users wishes, but after reading 15 pages of the other threads about the 1.5, i just saw users happy about the new license policy, and we always don't know about displacement (for example).

That's my POV

I think you shouldnt be that angry before you know all the new features maxwell 1.5 will have. Anyway, i cant tell if you are right or wrong, but i can advise you to express yourself only after 1.5 is out.

100% with you...but I've some doubt, NL may tell us if the new version will have a displacement option (my hope is for micropoly)...it isn't a new technology...same for a usable alpha map...

i'm very curious about the reason why nl don't want to show us a complete feature list 2-3 weeks before the release... i don't get it.

- is it not clear what features will be included so close to the release? i can't believe it...

- are there some groundbreaking new features, nobody has ever dreamt off but they are so easy to code that "the other competitors" could include them into their package immediately before the release of 1.5? i don't think so...

- all long wished major functions that are missing are finished - everybody knows them (from other packages...) the only news would be that they are finally working with maxwell... so why don't show them to us - everyone would be excited.

- none of these points are correct and the big new features/improvements have already been shown in the last newsletter... in this case it would be better to say it now than in two weeks.

...maybe we'll know about it in 2-3 weeks (or 4-6 weeks)

I'd suspect they simply want to add to the surprise.

I suspect instead that NL is a very 'fly by the seat of their pants' type dev company. Plus they have been burned by making promises regarding features before. I don't blame them. Personally I don't really care. There is an update coming soon. I've given up any hope of using maxwell in production. it's really a one-off tool for creating art.

though, displacement is kinda important, so if it isn't in 1.5 it should be shortly there after. It's crazy to have such a kickin renderer that is thusly crippled!

def4d, I'm with you in spirit, but being that way on this forum is a waste of everyone's time. Just send a letter to NL.

The only thing we have left now is to beleive that 1.5 will stand up to its name (number).

1.5 means halfway to 2.0 and that means half-way to the payment for the 2.0 upgrade.
