Studio is great once you get to know it. I built my models in Studio by importing parts from Sketchup. Works well. Studio is best for texture handling and testing renders.

A news letter is nice but I am not going to want it as long as I can see NL is working hard on plugins and the software. I rather have a solid stream of updates and news spread by plugin writers on the forums than the newsletter.
I use Sketchup as a modeler and since recently the plugin is rewrittten by someone who shares his basic planning in the forum. I am very happy with that.

JTB wrote:I 've said that before... NL has named the new release 1.2, that means minor improvements. Also speed and dielectrics improvement will be ready with RS2, which comes in ..... months (NL please fill the blancs)
The UI changes we have seen so far are great but they are UI, let's hope they will be followed by maxwell core improvements.
To tell you the truth I was hoping for a 1.5 release, at least this shows some important changes. I hope I'm wrong.
...i don't know, but for me nl's version numbers doesn't count that much since the rc and 1.x releases  i don't see any official standart in their numbering. and for the features to be expected for these "minor" point releases, i think there are many things (some big features like diplacement) that have been announced ages ago for v1.0 and should be build in step by step.
concerning rs2 - if i remember correctly - we have been told that it will be in 2.0 and not in 1.x - so maybe in 3 or 4 years with this development speed? ...after we have payed for the update to 2.0
...maybe they stop with v1 after 1.4 or 1.5 in 1-2 years if they need the money earlier

stop your fixation on version numbers and look at the software instead.

i mean they could do an 0.001 number increment and include all the features you ever wanted or they could move to V3.0 and only update the manual.

For me, i just want Maxwell to be/stay competitive, but it must integrates what users ask for long, things like displace, reflection/matte shadow etc maps, in fact BASICS things that all other renderers have.

Optimization on speed i think has already been done, and the best we can do is buy our dream machines!

Like lot of you, i NEVER use studio, so nevermind what could be done on that.

To mmhnemo : Generally numbers show how many changes and improvements come with every new release.

To numerobis : I think they build a solid app and environement and after that they will continue developing RS2, I believe that other software like ..... will make them hurry up.

To def4d: Maybe some things cannot be done so this is not what I 'm worrying about... With some apps we don't even need procedurals... for example MAX can produce them from the material editor.
What we need is faster maxwell... Then it will really be like taking a photo!

If this is true i´m definitely going to pay more attention to Fry´s development from now on. I couldn´t care less about Studio, what i need is a solid interaction between C4D and the renderer, and Maxwell never had that. If it´s not error messages, it´s crashes(sometimes with corrupted scene files as a result) and "missing" textures that aren´t really missing at all.
Even if Fry and C4D have bugs, they at least seem to have interest in doing something about them, unlike NL who actually keep old bugs in release after release.

AND, i guess their plugin doesn´t come in Lite-version, along with a manual that refers to using the Studio application instead for 90% of whatever you want to do.
But i could be wrong about that one...

...a little sneak peek at april's march newsletter:
We have finished the Linux 64 bit version of Maxwell and Studio and it will be released with the next major update: Maxwell Render 1.2, which we target to have ready for the second quarter of 2007. The development of the next version of Maxwell Render continues and is going to schedule (or: ...is running smoothly)
For a quick preview of the Maxwell Studio improvements and the new material editor, see below. More details about new features and changes coming soon.
It is not yet possible to reveal features or release dates, but we will keep you updated.
