Hiya guys,

I've got a situation and don't know if it's a bug. Try to do the following:

1: Create a sun emitter material and emitter object (a sphere) like explained in this thread:
http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 935#170935

2: Create a second sphere at the right distance from the sun object.

3: Give the sphere a little thickness using the Shell modifier.

4: Give the sphere a glass material (using the wizard if you prefer).

5: Put a second object in the sphere.

6: Render and you'll see that the sunlight doesn't seem to properly penetrate the glass globe to reach the object inside. It's as if the surrounding void interferes with the refraction you'd expect. During the render I also noticed some strange, buggy-looking bright pixels on the glass.

I encountered this problem after creating a scene with an astronaut and I just couldn't get his face to show up.

And another bug I noticed: the alpha isn't always correct. I used face extrude on a part of a sphere and the sides of the extruded part was shown in the alpha as black (transparent).

Maybe this is due to caustics take a long time to show through glass? Since you're probably using a small emitter very var away it will take even longer to show up.

Can you export your test scene as mxs and post it?

I think that's the same problem as the caustics of a pool: the old bug about caustics not seen through objects. Untill RS2 I think there's nothing to do apart from using AGS.

Thanks for your feedback Mihai and Fernando. I also had the impression that the caustics were not able to penetrate through the glass, enhanced by the distant and small light source. AGS did indeed work fine, but it doesn't look convincing on a sphere.

Mihai, if you want me to send you the scene that's fine, but I do think the cause is already explained. Is there maybe any rough estimation when the next major Maxwell update will be released?

Due intesive testing found out, that disabling Direct Caustic Layer doesn't work :( If I'm not the first one to mention, sorry.

Thanks for the info Vansan.

From my finalRender days I can remember that the caustics have to be turned on in order to let light properly penetrate through glass. So I guess turning the direct caustics off results in less light coming through to the other side of the glass.

Sorry MetinSeven_com, it was my mistake.
I've mixed reflection with caustics, sometimes it's difficult to be sure when u just start the rendering.

Very tiny bug,

When I create AGS material with wizard,

Two layers name is the same; reflective basic / reflective basic.

I think the first one is not a reflective basic but a refractive basic.

I installed the 64 bit max plug and the Maxwell studio, uploaded my Licence, yet when i hit render the Maxwell logo appears. i re Started max but it still shows up. What's the deal, and how can i fix it.
Does this have to do with the fact that i'm using a 64plug and maxwell is on the 32bit directory?

OK... This bug is really ticking me off! Every time I save and re-open a scene, the time for the daylight system keeps changing to my current time!

You get five points for adding the cool 'current time' button, but minus several billion points for implementing it poorly!

Well, that helps for new scenes, but unless I save a preset for every scene I do, I'll have to keep notes as to what time I've set for each one.

It's very irritating to spend a lot of time trying to get the lighting just right, only to open up the file again in the evening, and all you get is a black rendering (because it's dark outside silly, look out the window - you can't render when the sun is down)......

The more I think about this, the less I can actually see any practical use for this "feature." In all honesty, I'd really like to know what the thinking was behind the decision to do this..... Was this just a "golly gee wiz, look at what I can do" script?

Seriously, somebody please explain it to me....... I just don't get it......
