Yup, the only concern I have is this will become the new misused, overused feature of CG rendering :P Like a few years ago, everything had to be rendered with SSS...

But honestly, you have lots of control of it via the aperture and obstacle maps (simple b/w images, for example a hexagonal white shape over a black background), and also via the intensity. You can make it really subtle, or completely crazy. It's just another level of realism....

Just to avoid confusion, you make your own aperture and obstacle maps, so you can have any shapes you want :)

It's very simple, as you'll see. You make black-and-white maps with simple shapes on them for apeture and obstacle. For example, a simple white hexagon on black used as an apeture map creates the effect seen in the ocean render. You can add things like an "eyelash" map to the obstacle channel as well for an infinite variety of glare effects both real and imagined.

so if i understand this right, all i need to do is add a map like below to the apeture and i get the glare in the water sceen. that the best thing i heard since AGM.
