Speaking about RC6, i hope it's still possible in this bashing thread... anyways what i'm curious about is if it's likely we'll see a RC6 tomorrow on Friday or not :) now i know NL don't wanna give out dates anymore as people will be unhappy if they don't get what they want by that certain date blah blah and so on :) so i'm just wondering if i should start getting excited now for something that might show up tomorrow or if i should chill and keep on using RC5 for some more weeks.

i like it very much earnest.

by the way i am also not rendering "realistic" most of the time-
i have developed my own style over time.

but i love good light, and that is what maxwell gives to me better than anything else before.

nice image!

Maximus, I'm 99% sure you won't be seeing RC 6 on Friday. The next level of engine features require deep core changes, and when you pull something apart like that, it takes awhile to put it back together. There are a host of other improvements that have been made, but they can't be appended to RC5 and called an RC6; they have to wait until the core's back online again.

This is a slower period because it's a more intense period.

If nothing else, it would help a lot of guys figure out what that "hand-washing" thing is all about.

"However, it was far from easy to set up"

well it still needs experienced people, and thats good so. there isnt such a thing as a one click solution. see examples here. there are excelllent results and also very poor ones-all with the same engine.

its still the artist who counts.

i am doing archviz and maxwell is already very very suited for it. i have done the 3rd payed job in 3-4weeks, 2 of it even competitions. and i am very happy with rc5!

you need fast pc of course and more than one license.

but i can tell you mw IS production ready for most kind of archviz. i have over 10 years experience, and worked with all kinds of renderengines over time. maxwell is the most stunning, best and nicest approach until now i think.

give it a try. of course mit migth not be so easy for beginners ot for people with just one home pc. thats true. you need lots af gigaherz...hope maxwell will counts sockets soon rather than cores fpr cpus.

cheers

I´m not bashing you here, but sorry, you can´t convince me that triangulating and exporting thousands of objects into studio, just to be able to render out anything decent is synonymous to a smooth workflow, especially when hierarchies aren´t supported. It´s nothing but a total waste of time. Does the studio even support scenes with 10-15 million polys?

And why on earth should people have to trade their far superior native 3D programs for something like studio in order to use the renderer. They can develop the damn thing for years, and still wont even get close to established 3D software.

NL should stop wasting time on the studio and work on releasing working plugins first and foremost, and WITH a materials editor as was promised from the beginning, instead of trying to force the studio upon people as they´re doing now.

They're not forcing Studio on you, brother, they're just developing a necessary interface for someone who's needs differ from yours. Plug-in development is no less a priority, it's just that you can't fully develop a plug-in for core features that aren't complete. But plug-ins are getting lots of petting and stroking and love, so don't you worry your little head about it :)

I'd like to know what the percentage is of Maxwell users that don't have a native 3D app that supports a Maxwell plugin. I'd be willing to bet it less than 5%, so why spend all of this time and resource just to give those people a way to use Maxwell, it doesn’t make since.

It's greater than 5%, and there's no reason not to; it's not holding up or delaying development of plug-ins or core. There's no energy or crew working on Studio that would otherwise be working on plug-ins... it's just helping to level the playing field and make Maxwell available to the widest userbase.

I'm pretty sure that NL is paying a salary to these guy's developing Studio, those are resources that could be redirected into hiring more people to help code plugins or fix bugs.
