Hi guys,

Thanks for the great comments!

Yes like Mike and Tom say, it would be faster losing some of the unseen faces, but the way I work goes a little bit like this:

while I'm modeling I start a render to get an overall feeling of my new product and in the process i think that there are about 10/20 renders like this.
and renders like this only take about 2 hours, that is fast enough for me at this point.
Indeed when the models are ready it might be better to lose some of the unseen faces to speed up things, but then again, I always like to render from different angles so it would take me a lot of time deleting and adding those faces again for such a small object.

with my cockpit render I did lose as much as a could of the unseen faces

here are some wire shots and below a wire of my cockpit trimmed for rendering:

This are some kick A$$ Models you show here!!! How do you go about starting modeling this stuff? do you have blueprints for all this parts or is by photos and looking at the real parts?

I'm not a nurbs guy... i do SubD, Box modeling stuff... with Modo now. It sure be great if you could share some insight on modeling in rhino if you get the time for it... (how is rhino for archviz?)

Whoa! holy cow that's some insane detailing there Nico, i love all
those extreme details because that's where the devil always hides :D
You should try just for the kicks of it to do some quick product shots of
these parts, drop them in a studiosetup and let them render for a bit.

Keep going on with the great modeling Nico :) i'm impressed now.

Nico, ......very nice fillet work on that dial switch.

did you use the 'pipe' trick around the perimieter / split surfaces / ...then blend surfaces ?

It is always amazing to see, how easy it is to impress subdivison-modellers with models of - you will surely agree Nico - low to medium complexity (only talking about the switches here), done in Rhino. Maybe Nurbs are not that dead. :D

Nurbs are definitely not dead ......... :P

Just taking a look around at my desk, ......I'm sure most things at one point began as a NURB !

Hi guys,

Hey dd_,
Indeed ashlar's cobalt looks real nice  but also real >$3000, just need to work a little bit harder

hey Holger and ivox3 :D

Yes most products are made using nurb tools like Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, Rhinoceros, etc etc

Nurbs are not dead :D

that one most excellent simulator aswell, it's sooooo good!

MS FlightSim can eat my shorts, it sucks compared to X-Plane hehe

Sorry Nico to jump in your thread but i just had to say it as i saw it being
mentioned here by oneshot, i apologize yet again.

MSFS sucks compared to X-Plane? Really? How so?

I'm not defending microsoft here but to me it seems that MSFS has a bigger following. I could understand that that X-Plane vs MSFS (defualt / stock / no addons) argument but once you get some addins going there is no comparision. For instance:

www.megascenery.com - Hi defination scenery (if only google earth tied in with a flight sim!)

www.precisionmanuals.com - Tell me that xplane has a 747 modeled like this! Boeing GAVE them a 747 to use during development. They coded all the flight dynamics and systems in an EXTERNAL .dll so they dont use any of the defualt MSFS physics! They basically just use MSFS as a visual front end for the plane!

www.eaglesoftdg.com - Citationx... need I say more?

www.leveldsim.com - My favorite... 767 flys like a dream. I feel 90% confident that I could fly the real thing after all the hours ive logged on this bird.

www.hifisim.com - Real world weather... with radar.

http://www.aerialfoundry.com/ - carrier landings... nicccceee!

Have you seen the screen shots of MSFS 10?
