This one always drives me nuts, but since it's just a text-fix, it may be way low on the priority list. But it hasn't actually "failed." It's just been "stopped."

Bigger fish to fry, my friend.

-oooh- this would explain why animaiton was N/A in rc1-4, becasue the renders were "stopped" at completing a frame, so mxcl treated it like a stop, so it never went on to the next frame.. :(

Mike,
so It's safe for me to think that animation wont be available in rc5 since the render's will still be "stopped" at frames completion?
-just verifing, since you also posted something that said the developers are wanting to get a single frame to render before moving on to mutli frames rendering (this you write in response to motion blur)

-also, I saw that the timeline was removed in rc studio, I think it was present in rc1 but i didnt see it in rc3-4.. i guess that rc5 studio stillwont have a timeline?

keep on the testing mike (although you deserve a break)

Ernest Burden wrote:Do you have a job, work to do that puts food on the table? You seem to be pouring too much time into the Maxwell work, and while I for one appreciate your efforts to communicate with the B-team (like a straight-to-video movie, so sad) I have to wonder how long you can keep up the pace.

I also understand you paid for a licence. I've betatested other 3D products, and never been asked to pay for a licence. A free licence is the usual 'payment' for all the hard work betatestes do. I hope NL throws you a bone.
Presumption, thy name is Ernest. How could you possibly know if I'm pouring "too much work" into Maxwell or not?!

How I make my living isn't really any of your concern, but for the record, I'm a film and television composer whose visual effects hobby accidentally became a second career 12 years ago profitable enough for me to open my own post-production house. You're welcome to Google me or go to my site or whatever, but as far as visual-effects are concerned, I still use mental ray for production work, I work almost constantly, even when testing Maxwell, and I believe in the work going on here.

But I don't sleep much.

[BIG BAD MOD THREAD EDIT]

Ok, we're just going to pretend that never happened. A low-point for this mega-thread, and I wasn't helping any, either.

Move along... Move along...

[MOD EDIT]

**We're not keeping any the off-topic comments from that totally derailed tangent alive. No matter how clever you think it is. Do not post them again.**

Ahh... my bad, then. Apologies for sh*tting on a nice thought. Damn. Hey, though... I wonder if the absence of other testers may mean they're better testers than me... too busy to be forumizizing. But then again, I got the whole English-speaking thing going for me. Plus I'd just miss you guys so much. :)

I'm reposting this innocent compliment because it disappeared overnight w/o a reasonable explanation.

Wow the parties really died out around here. So lets get things back on topic then, shall we?

A-Team/NL: Once again the question is still up in the air. Can M~R now or very soon be able to render a scene just like the Vray example I provided (http://www.thepixelartist.com/images/ma ... _test2.jpg) in a reasonable timeframe. And actually I would consider "reasonable" to have all caustics/reflections to be at least somewhat visible after a few minutes. Obviously not noise free but visible. (Is it just me or am I still hearing LOOUUD NOISES, maybe it the moans of the development team).

M~R ability to preview an image fast, to me, is it's greatest strength. But not if you have to wait hours for all light phenomenon to appear.

The bump is just a noisemap applied to this layer and no shapes necessary

I'm just going to bump this question, since I think it got drowned out durring the ongoing fracus.

I don't care that.
Procedurals aren't realistic anyway!

Thanks for the answer, Mike - it's appreciated (even if it isn't what I wanted to hear)

??? Really? Well I guess today’s implementation of procedural texturing does leave quite a bit to be desired. But make no mistake; the future belongs to procedural surfacing/materials (and everything else for that matter). Besides Maxwells unstopibly unbiased "give me physics or give me death" way of doing things it just dying for a HQ procedural system (should be/could be a great combo).

On that note, it looks like Modo 201 will implement one of the better procedural systems to date. I still giddy with it's potential.
