Well I think the new core is maybe a little bit faster.
mverta's computer is a P4 2.2 yours is a P4 3.06 ghz...means more than 30 % faster. Then the hyperthreading is not enable in mverta's computer, is it the same case for yours? If this is not the case so I think there's a big difference of render time between the beta and this RC. And as mverta said the new core is not optimized which, i presume, was not the case of the beta.

All this means that for the same amount of time the new RC will be less noisy...little bit less.

agree

btw, mine had ht enable.

The key issue is, that dielectric materials still strong increase the noise. So If you like to work with glas you need time. More than you ever will have.

a question for mike verta:

i didn't have the time to read all 38 thread pages, but would like to know if the 'blur behind dielectrics' problem has been fixed? in the current test images i never see an object behind a glass solid (like a window glass) so i couldn't tell. any conclusions here?

best regards

Ok, I did some quick testing last night and looks like I was able to fix most of the issues. Sunlight though glass is working, caustics through caustics though glass looks correct, and there is a mirror inside at the far back on the room which reflecting the caustics back through the two planes of glass. Also no blurring that I can see.

Heres the results @ 1600x900 3h28m

thanks for testing it! looks like some issues are resolved! but u use the term 'fix' - does it mean that what we see includes some workarounds or is it a straight rendering with the current render engine?

also, 3h:something is still very slow with that kind of grain and the simplicity of the scene... please can you tell us the PC specs?
